1995-11-01 00:00:00- 1999-12-31 00:00:00 Air Photograph Interpretation RCHME: Berkshire NMP

Part of the former Royal Commission on Historic Monuments of England (RCHME) National Mapping Programme (NMP). NMP is now administered by English Heritage. The project aims and objectives were to map all archaeological remains visible on aerial photographs as both cropmarks and earthworks, at a scale of 1:10,000 to a consistent standard. The project area originally encompassed all OS 1:10,000 scale quarter sheets which contained any part of the county of Berkshire, as defined in 1974. However only 9 quarter sheets were completed - SU 36 NW, NE, SW, SE; SU 46 NW, NE, SW, SE; SU 35 NE. Seven quarter sheets were manually transcribed, one of which was digitised and two were created digitally. The manually transcribed quarter sheets are available as scanned raster images and the digitised sheets are available as vector data (SU 46 NW, NE, SW). The project was recast as the Lambourn Downs project (see Event 1200046) which covered parts of West Berks, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.
