Good Government is a Universal Value

By Anonymous, on Oct 20, 2012

James has done hundreds of live events across the State with every organization that has invited him.

The big takeaway?  Republicans, Democrats, and Independents agree that GOOD GOVERNMENT IS A UNIVERSAL VALUE.  We can make government more effective and efficient - and rebuild voter's trust.

Brian Sonntag Endorsement?

By James Watkins, on Oct 17, 2012

There's been some confusion among voters about who Brian Sonntag has endorsed for state auditor.  The answer?  Nobody!

The only public statement issued by Sonntag we're aware of is in the NW Daily Marker in which he says:

"... [Watkins] is particularly well qualified based on his experience and background to advance the State Auditor's Office and be an independent advocate for taxpayers."

Brian gave James specific permission to use the quote in the voters' guide.

James Watkins wants to build on the foundation of the good, non-partisan work that State Auditor Sonntag and the SAO have done over the last 20 years. Watkins is endorsed by nearly every major newspaper across the state as well as diverse organizations that include Democrats, Republicans and independents. See “Endorsements” for additional information.

Fact Check Troy Kelley

By James Watkins, on Sep 6, 2012

Friends - this is an unpleasant post to write.

As soon as State Representative Troy Kelley entered the race, my campaign started getting bizarre tips and allegations about Troy - things like misappropriation of funds, suspicious office fires, theft, and offshore bank accounts in Belize.  The tips increased after he spent a record amount of ‘his’ own money to fool voters into thinking he was endorsed by Brian Sonntag for state auditor.

Performance - not Politics. Democratic State Auditor Brian Sonntag says Watkins is "Particularly Well Qualified!"

By James Watkins, on May 26, 2012

For the past 20 years, State Auditor Brian Sonntag has set the standard for a modern auditor – he’s regarded by both parties as fair; he’s trusted by Washington’s citizens; and most of all, he’s led the charge for government openness, accountability, and efficiency.

Brian is retiring, so it’s time to hire a new auditor – an independent voice capable of building on Brian’s good government legacy. An advocate for the people who is dedicated to working with the governor, the legislature, and local governments to ensure that taxpayers get a dollar of value for every dollar we pay in taxes.

I believe my background and experience make me the right person for the job. Brian Sonntag agrees - in an interview on May 24, he said, "... [Watkins] is particularly well qualified based on his experience and background to advance the State Auditor's Office and be an independent advocate for taxpayers."

Endorsements - A Broad Base of Support

By James Watkins, on Oct 12, 2012

Today, we learned that I was endorsed by the Tacoma News Tribune & the Vancouver Columbian - so far in the general and primary I've been endorsed by EVERY major paper which chose to endorse.

Since I started running for auditor, I’ve run an incredibly positive grassroots campaign.  I've done hundreds of live events and speeches across the State.  I’ve accepted every invitation to speak I could physically attend – from Republican, Democratic, Labor, and Business groups alike.  I have answered questions from voters and the press in a forthright manner.  I suspect that’s why I’ve been endorsed by groups from across the political spectrum, including  groups as diverse as the Pierce County Young Democrats and the Mainstream Republicans.

I've also been endorsed by a diverse group of citizens and individuals.  Check it out by clicking here.
