Family Guy video game preview (part 1)

By Andy (Tuesday, October 10, 2006)

On October 17th, 2006 the Family Guy Video Game hits the stores. There is a lot of anticipation for the game, which has been the dream of many fans for some years now. In the first part of Planet Family Guy’s preview feature we take a look at the what to expect and answers some commonly asked questions about the game.

The Family Guy Video Game will put you in control of your favourite characters, Peter, Stewie, and Brian, as you try to take over the world, except in Peters case where you must attempt to stop Mr. Belvedere! Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, Seth Green, and Adam West have all been involved in the project providing their voice talents to the game.

Between game play there will be cinematic sequences that will contain the show’s usual quirky humour. For a preview of the cinematic sequences go take a look at the preview clips that Take2 Games sent us below (for mature audiences only, you must be 17 or over to watch the clips).

Several writers from the show were brought on board to help ensure that the game plays like an interactive episode. The game will even feature the familiar cut-scenes that have made the show such a success. The difference is that when Peter remarks, “this is grosser than the time I…”, you get to play the cut scene as a mini-game to upgrade your character’s skills.

Each character has their own style of game play. Brian’s missions are of the stealth variety as he tries to gather evidence to proove his innocence—Carter Pewterschmidt has accused Brian of impregnating Seabreeze; Stewie is after the evil Bertrand equipped with his ray-gun and mind control helmet as he heads to the Quahog Hospital and into Peter’s testicles; meanwhile Peter, suffering from significant head-trauma, believes that Mr. Belvedere is trying to kill his family so wanders the streets of Quahog punching children and the elderly to steal their cookies in an attempt to stop Belvedere.

IGN have said of the game, “we laughed and we laughed hard,” reckoning that fans of the show are going to love it when Take2 Games gave them a preview a few weeks ago. “The game appears very simple and accessible, at this point, like a children’s game with mature content.”

The game comes out on October 17th (October 27th in the UK) and will be available on the PS2, PSP, and Xbox only. We will continue to bring you the latest on the game as we get it, but in the meantime check out the screenshots in the second part of our preview, and remember to take a look at the video clips of the in-game cinematic below.
