fUGHT International, 13 April 1967 551 Aerolineas Abaroa Ltda was formed in 1964 to operate domestic non-scheduled cargoservices. Head Office; Casilla 3043, La Paz, Bolivia.Executive: Frederico Covarrubias, president. Fleet: three DC-3, one Cessna 180. Aerolineas Argentinas was founded as a StateCorporation in May 1949 by the Ministry of Transport to take over the operations ofFAMA, ALFA, Aeroposta and ZONDA. These companies ceased operations onDecember 31, 1949, and were merged to form Aerolineas Argentinas. The airline operatesan extensive network of routes using HS.748 turboprops and DC~4s on domestic sectors,Caravelles and Comets on regional services and 142-seat Boeing 707-387Bs on routes toEurope and the USA, including one of the longest in the world between Rio de Janeiroand Rome (5,700 miles). During 1967 Aero- lineas will become an all-turbine operatorwhen the remaining DC-4s are transferred to the Air Force, who received the company'sthree DC-6s during 1966. Aerolineas Can-eras Transposes Aereos(ACTA) is an Argentine non-scheduled freight carrier which has operated domesticand international service since 1959. In December 1963 the CAB granted the com-pany a three-year permit to operate non- scheduled services between Argentina andMiami, via intermediate points in Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Panama and Vene-zuela. Head Office: Callao 157, PB, Buenos Aires,Argentina. Executives: Jose M. Carreras Saavedra,owner; Jorge Cabaud, operations; Luis Morao, administration.Fleet: one L-749A freighter. Aerolineas Colonia SA (ARCO) is a Uru-guayan carrier which operates scheduled services between Colonia, Uruguay andBuenos Aires. The company was founded in 1958, but services did not start till July, 1964.The principal stockholders originally held the majority stock of CAUSA, which they soldwhen the company was reorganised in 1962. CAUSA's three C-46s were then transferredto ARCO. The Uruguayan bus company ONDA is also a shareholder in the company.Head Office: Plaza Libertad 1340, Monte- video, Uruguay. Aero 0/ (Finnair) has seven Convair 440s Aerolineas . Flecha Austral Ltda (ALFA)operate scheduled cargo services on Santiago- Antofagasta-Iquique-Arica route, togetherwith international and domestic cargo charters. Head Office: Agustinas 1225, Of. 604,Santiago, Chile. Fleet: two C-46, one C-82. Aerolineas Peruanas SA (APSA) was formedin September 1956 to operate cheap rate services to the USA. Additional capital wasobtained from the USA by way of the Shelton organisation and services started mid-1957,initially to Santiago and Miami. Convair 990s were brought into service in 1964, and nowthe only propeller service is the tourist flights from Lima to Bogota, Panama and Miami.Eight South American countries are now served and in 1966 Mexico City, Acapulcoand Los Angeles were added to the network. APSA became a member of I ATA in 1966.CAB permissions to operate to Washington and Montreal may be exercised. Aerolineas Vega SA is a Mexican carrieroperating a scheduled service from Mexico City to Acapulco and Oaxica.Head Office: Boulevard Aeropuerto Inter- nacional No 483, Mexico City, Mexico.Executive: Gustavo R. Vega, general manager Fleet: two DC-3. Aerolinee Itavia SPA was formed in April 1958as Societa di Navigazione Aerea Itavia and started operations in July 1959 using DHDoves and Herons. Services were suspended in 1961 but restarted in May 1962. In Nov-ember of that year the name Aerolinee Itavia was adopted and some of the Herons tradedin against the purchase of two Handley Page Heralds, since increased to four.Head Office: Aeroporto Ciampino Ouest, Via Appia, Rome, Italy.Executives: Dr M. Aeromaya SA, a part of the BarbachanoTravel Service and Hotel group of companies, and owned by the president and director, wasformed on November 1, 1966, by the merger of Aero-Safari SA (ASSA), which itself had takenover Aero Taxi SA of Merida, and Servicio Aereo Gomez-Mendez SA, a local service operator based on Mexico City's AeropuertoCentral. The resulting network of routes now link points on the Pacific coast and the Gulfof Mexico with Mexico City and Merida using HS.748s and DC-3s. Aeronaves del Peru SA was formed in June1965 by a group of ex-Air Force officers to operate scheduled domestic services. Opera-tions have not yet begun. In February the company changed ownership, but no new planshave been announced. Head Office: Oficina 104, Camana 780, Lima,Peru. Fleet: two DC-6. On order: one DC-6. Aeronaves de Mexico SA was established inSeptember 1934 and began operating between Mexico City and Acapulco on September 15of that year with a single-engined Stinson. Its early fleet consisted of a Stinson tri-motor,three Bellanca Pacemakers and a Fairchild 24. In 1952 Aeronaves bought LAMSA (foundedin 1934) from United Air Lines, and in 1954 acquired Aerovias Reforma. Since thenAerolineas Mexicanas SA and Guest Aerovias Mexico have also been taken over. In 1959the airline was nationalised and the Pan American holding passed to the MexicanGovernment. DC-8s operate over international routes which include services from MexicoCity to Los Angeles, Tucson, New York, San Antonio, Washington, Miami and Detroit.During 1964 the Mexican Government desig- nated Aeronaves to operate services to Lisbon,Madrid, Paris, London, Rome, Bermuda and Santa Maria (Azores) in place of GuestAerovias. Domestic route network now covers more than 30 points and is approximately6,500 miles in length. Head Office: Blvd Aeropuerto Central 161,Mexico City, Mexico.
