Madikeri
Kodagu district Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held at Bhagamandala ‘Gadi Utsava’ to be held in Virajpet Madikeri: The second Virajpet taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan will be held at Siddapura in Virajpet taluk on January 19, president of the Kodagu District Kannada Sahitya Parishat T.P. Ramesh said here on Monday. Addressing presspersons here, he said Siddapura had been chosen as the venue as Kannada usage was not satisfactory there. Developing a bond between Kannada and other languages such as Malayalam spoken in Siddapura and making the people take to Kannada in regular business and other routines was the objective of the parishat, Mr. Ramesh said. The president of the sammelan would be chosen two weeks ahead of the event. Several seminars had been planned on the occasion, including bond between Kodava-Kannada, Kannada-Malayalam languages, religious connection between Kodagu and Kerala. A procession would be taken out and senior persons involved with the cause of Kannada in Kodagu would be felicitated. Cultural programmes would be organised in the evening. The next Kodagu district Kannada Sahitya Sammelan would be held at Bhagamandala and the date would be fixed later, Mr. Ramesh said. A preliminary meeting to chalk out plans for the district sammelan would be held at Bhagamandala on December 15. Similarly, preliminary meeting concerning the Somwarpet taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan would be held at Somwarpet on December 20. The Madikeri taluk sammelan would be held in Napoklu and the date would be announced in the next few days, he said. AcademiesMr. Ramesh regretted that none from Kodagu was chosen to represent various academies in the State. The Government should shun political considerations and nominate deserving people from Kodagu on the boards of the academies, he urged. The “Gadi Utsava” (border festival) would be held in Virajpet town soon, Mr. Ramesh announced. Virajpet borders Kerala. The Kodagu parishat would undertake a membership drive in the district, he said. Office-bearers of the district unit of the parishat were present.
