Former Brewers pitcher charged with domestic battery

Former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Francisco J. Rodriguez has been charged with domestic abuse battery, a misdemeanor, over a September incident at his home in Wales.

According to the criminal complaint filed Wednesday:

Waukesha County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call from Rodriguez's residence about 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 17. They found his 23-year-old girlfriend hiding in a closet. She told them Rodriguez, with whom she has a child, struck her in the head with his fist, then kicked her on the ground before dragging her to a car and driving around the neighborhood while continuing an argument.

Rodriquez, 30, told deputies his girlfriend got upset when he said she couldn't accompany him on the Brewers' trip to Pittsburgh and that they pushed each other and argued.

When deputies met with the victim three days later, she said the whole incident was her fault and denied that Rodriguez had caused her injuries. She said the couple had broken up, and she wanted to return to her native country but was dependent on Rodriguez.

Rodriquez filed for free agency this week. The criminal complaint lists him with a Florida address.

Rodriguez was arrested in August 2010 while playing for the New York Mets and charged with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment after a scuffle with his girlfriend's father in a family lounge at Citi Field. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of attempted assault and served no jail time by agreeing to undergo a year of anger management classes.
