This volume is only slightly less successful than its predecessor, covering territory ranging from the early 1960s into the early 1970s. There are fewer surprises in terms of names or involvements, but some of the music is fairly impressive -- David Rose's theme from The High Chaparral, George Dunning's The Big Valley, Ennio Morricone's music for The Men From Shiloh (which is very much in the tradition of his "Man With No Name" Western film scores), Alexander Courage's Judd For The Defense, and Maurice Jarre's Cimarron Strip are all worthwhile, and even the standards like Franz Waxman's theme from Peyton Place (entitled "Wonderful Season of Love") are good additions to anyone's soundtrack collection. The kid show themes are more uneven, Stingray, H.R. Punfnstuf, and Gigantor offering a lot more than Superchicken. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
