‘X Factor’: Alas, poor Jason Brock

Lyric 145 performs on ‘The X Factor.’ (Ray Mickshaw - Fox)

You think Tuesday’s voting was nerve wracking – tonight we learn the results of the first ever viewer voting on the Britney Spears edition of “X Factor.”

But first, an inspirational performance by boy band One Direction – inspirational because they were each solo contestants on the British “X Factor,” and were put together into a group by none other than our own Supreme Judge, Simon “Pudgy” Cowell, and went on to a sell 13 million records, according to Shouting Off Camera Wrestling Announcer Guy.

Lots of energy from the guys on their hit “Live While We’re Young.” Trying to figure out which one is NOT dating Youth Demographic Judge Demi Lovato adds considerable interest.

AMC may revive ‘The Killing’ with Netflix

AMC, staring at a future without “Breaking Bad” and maybe also minus the Western drama “Hell on Wheels,” has jump-started talks to bring back “The Killing” after all.

”The Killing” (Carole Segal - AMC)
Netflix has been brought into the conversations between AMC and “The Killing” studio Fox, but AMC would get first crack at new episodes of the Veena Sud drama, the Deadline Web site reported.

AMC announced last month that “Hell on Wheels” would return for a third season. But the creators’ contracts were not renewed, after AMC thought another of its writer/producers would become the show-runner — only he put them wise and now the show has no show-runner and its future in doubt.

Showtime decides ‘The Big C’ will become a ‘limited series’ for its last season

Showtime to FX: two can play that game.

Premium cable network Showtime announced Thursday it had changed the name of its cancer comedy “The Big C” for its final four-episode mop-up.

“The Big C,” which will hereafter be known as “The Big C: hereafter,” also was billed in Showtime’s announcement, as “a four-part limited event series.”

“Limited series,” BTW, is what the TV academy used to call those TV project we now call “miniseries” at its Emmy Awards.

CW moves ‘Sex and the City’ prequel, ‘Carrie Diaries,’ to 8 p.m. Mondays

AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie Bradshaw. (THE CW)
Instead of using its “Sex and the City” prequel, “The Carrie Diaries” to replace “Gossip Girl” Mondays at 9 p.m., after “GG” says so-long on Dec. 17, CW has decided to give Carrie the 8 p.m. berth (moving aged "90210" to 9) staring Jan.14.

Generally it's lunacy to launch a new series at 8 — better to give it an established series as a leadin, driving viewers to the newbie.

Unless, of course, the new show stars some big pre-sold commodity.

Like, say, the Green Arrow — the DC Comics character introduced to the world in the '40s, and now starring in his own CW drama "Arrow," which premiered, at 8 p.m. one night in October and logged a whopping 4 million viewers - the biggest haul for a CW new series unveiling on any night in three years.

‘The X Factor’: Diamond brought back

THE X FACTOR L-R: L.A. Reid, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell. (Ray Mickshaw - Fox)

America, having passed the test of peacefully re-electing a president last night, is now good to go for tonight, the first episode of this season’s “X Factor” in which the audience gets a vote.

Enter the judges. Chief Judge Simon “Wattles” Cowell has apparently made peace with the show’s ratings or switched to Ben & Jerry’s Vanilla Splenda, because he has no additional chins.

Simon has some “important news”: The judges “made a mistake” in last week’s elimination round that left 12 contesting acts. They certainly did, eliminating the adorable and talented 13-year old Diamond White in favor of the dull, though possibly irresistible to tweener girls, Arin Ray.

Justice is done! Diamond is back. And so, we say goodbye and good luck to Arin who… uh, no. He’s staying to make an even 13 X-testants.

Tonight’s theme is music from the movies.

Arin is first up. His number is “American Boy” and he’s a solid C+, with points deducted for barely standing out from the backup dancers and the backing vocals, not to mention the borderline Gangnam Style dance steps.

The judges love him unconditionally. It’s a rule, apparently.
