June Carroll, performer, singer and well-known Broadway lyricist, died May 16 from complications of Parkinson's disease in Los Angeles. She was 86.

Best known for her performance in the Broadway musical "New Faces of 1952," she sang two of her songs in the show that were to become standards: "Love Is a Simple Thing" and "Penny Candy."

"Monotonous," also written by Carroll and sung by Eartha Kitt, stopped the show each night.

Carroll began singing professionally at the age of seven and made her Broadway debut in "New Faces of 1934." She appeared in several Hollywood films (including the movie of "New Faces of 1952"), and over the years worked on the book and lyrics for 12 Broadway musicals.

She wrote songs for the 1945 musical Western "The Man From Oklahoma" with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and also that year's "An Angel Comes to Brooklyn," in which she had an acting role.

She married her second husband, screenwriter Sidney Carroll, in 1940. He died in 1988.

She is survived by four children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
