Hopefully Aldo can heal up and fight in August.  The Philly card needs a main event.

IDONTBLUFF28 on May 02, 2011 at 1:43 pm ET
He's suspended for 30 days.

REALFIGHTERFAN on May 02, 2011 at 4:45 pm ET
60 day medical suspension won't be a big deal for GSP considering the FACT he only fights once a year now anyway.

Lavier on May 02, 2011 at 6:49 pm ET
Even though he's fought two times in the last 6 months.... STFU

JYDOG on May 02, 2011 at 7:22 pm ET
REALFIGHTERTROLL.  This is a popular mis-conception.  GSP has fought at least twice a year for his entire career.  You are pathetic.

Charlie valencia suspended only 60 days? Shattered nose?

Bulldozer on May 02, 2011 at 2:45 pm ET
He'll be fine in 60 days.  I broke my nose after getting kneed in the nose in soccer (I'm the goalie) and suffering a concussion and I was 100% in less time than that.  I think I missed a bit over a month.

Fedor = Carrot on a Stick.

Only fight I see Randy coming back for.

IB4U on May 02, 2011 at 4:53 pm ET
+1

I somehow see Fedor KOing Randy back to retirement tho.

I think Aldo vs Mendes should be put on the Rio card, that way Aldo gets a chance to fight in front of his home fans for a change. That d be nice of Dana to make that happen for him, but it looks like that fight will be on UFC 133.

And i don't think anyone on the whole card was more disappointed than Brilz. Year long lay off and then knocked out in 20 sec in a fight in front of the biggest crowd ever.

themuffinman on May 02, 2011 at 2:00 pm ET
Vitor really wanted to be on that card, I kind of feel bad that he didn't get it. Apparently he is like one of the biggest MMA stars within the Brazilian community. Can you Imagine Anderson, Rua, Aldo, and Vitor all on the same card? too much to ask for, but it'd be great.

I wonder how some people can say that Shields got completely dominated for 25 mins and walks away with a 14 day precautionary suspension.

GSPimp on May 02, 2011 at 1:58 pm ET
Because if you watch the fight he got hi a$$ handed to him.

DetroitHam on May 02, 2011 at 4:42 pm ET
just like how Dan Hearty got his "a$$" handed to him?  GSP is awful to watch and is no where near P4P the best, he hasn't finished anyone in 3 years, his striking looks awful even when striking against guys who have no little to striking.

GSP comes off as a good person, but i think he is bad for the sport because if people talk about him as the "best" people who are not MMA fans that watch the PPV will think; if this is the best they have to offer then this sport isn't worth watching.

bigdmmafan on May 02, 2011 at 2:04 pm ET
Because dominated and damaged are 2 different words. Most websites including MMAJunkie had every single round going to St. Pierre (I still dont know what 2 rounds those 2 judges gave Shields). Was Shields completely f*cked up? No but the fact that he didnt win 1 round on most peoples score cards indicates that he was dominated.

  • Jake Shields: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
  • Jose Aldo: Suspended 30 days due to lacerations
  • Mark Hominick: Suspended 60 days for precautionary reasons and must have a new CT scan completed
  • Lyoto Machida: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons
  • Randy Couture: Was suspended for 60 days due to KO, but upon further prompting from Dana White, Randy is now suspended for 6000 days, just incase   ; )

Phalanx44 on May 02, 2011 at 2:06 pm ET
If history has taught us anything, it's that claiming to be retired, and never returning to the octogon are very different things. Granted in Randy's case, retirement seems permanent (this time). But a commision still has to issue a medical suspension post fight anyway. It could affect what other liscences he could apply for... It's just proceedure.

Mark Hominick: Suspended 60 days for precautionary reasons and must have a new CT scan completed...

...and the little baby growing out of his forehead: Suspended 14 days for precautionary reasons

getajobgrouch on May 02, 2011 at 2:25 pm ET
I think getting his tooth knocked out will make him stay retired this time. Not bad for an old man missing a tooth

zndr on May 02, 2011 at 2:36 pm ET
Anybody know what is up with the Matyushenko suspension ? Dana White should be suspended for 30 days at least because he spent more time in the octogon than Vlady.

Velociraptor on May 02, 2011 at 2:43 pm ET
Lol. As I was telling my buddies that the fight could potentially be boring they were like "WOOOW KTFO!!!" Im never turning my back on the screen again when Vlads fighting.

Stinko31 on May 02, 2011 at 3:20 pm ET
Is it me or did Mark Hominick have the Hellboy look going on?

TeaTownCowboy on May 03, 2011 at 1:16 am ET
I thought it was more like one of those dudes on Star Trek, you know w/ the huge ridges on each side of the forehead, LOL?!

dawgbone on May 02, 2011 at 4:29 pm ET
One of the conditions that was put in place to legalize MMA in Ontario is a mandatory 14 day suspension for any fighter who competes in MMA.

I think this only impacts pro fighters and not amateur ones.

zndr on May 03, 2011 at 1:54 am ET
Got it, thanks.

Linux_User on May 02, 2011 at 9:10 pm ET
I could be wrong but it appears to me that every fighter gets a minimum 14 day suspension after a fight for "precautionary reasons" which is then extended according to any "damage" taken.

Linux_User on May 02, 2011 at 9:11 pm ET
Damn. Beat me to it, DAWG....

IB4U on May 02, 2011 at 10:33 pm ET
Matty 20 sec in the cage and got 14 days?  lol..its cool! Good pay day!

TeaTownCowboy on May 03, 2011 at 1:15 am ET
Machida got 14 days....for what, did he break a toenail breaking Randy's tooth off?!
