True Love Waits
In the letter column of Buffy #22, we presented a wedding proposal. I told you to look back here for an update. Sorry I didn't get it in sooner; but here, now, is the update, from the would-be groom, Dillon, in his own words:
“As the day of release came closer, I was getting pretty nervous. When I wrote my proposal, I was 100% sure that she'd say yes. However, doubt started nagging me as time passed. I felt like a twelve-year-old going on a first date again. I was full of excitement and fear. Mostly fear.
Fast-forward a few months. The Saturday before #22 released, I received the prerelease copy that Dark Horse sent, and suddenly I faced a dilemma. I didn't know if I should let her see it right then and there, or wait for Wednesday's official release. I decided to wait it out a bit longer. I didn't want her to be suspicious and I felt the prerelease copy would do just that, since I couldn't explain why I had it. I peeked at the end to see how the proposal looked, and then hid it away. I want to point out that I had completely forgotten the comic contained, you know, a comic.
Finally, Wednesday arrived. Instead of giving her mine to read, we got a copy together. It was just like any other comic book day. I started with my stack of other new comics while she started reading Buffy. A while later, she had apparently gotten to it, because she looked like she was about to strangle me. Sarin's own words for this message: "I was floored. I knew about halfway through reading the letter where it was going, and I had to bite my lip to keep from screaming two-thirds of the way down. When I got to the proposal, I just dived on top of him and screamed, 'Yes! Yes! Yes!' "
And there was the answer I'd waited months for: an overwhelming yes. It wasn't until later, after she made a comment about vampy cats, that I realized I still hadn't read the issue (which is now one of my favorites).
So I, or rather, we, would like to thank you guys at Dark Horse. You really helped me make this proposal memorable and very special. I also want to thank the various users at the Buffy Zone, Whedonesque, and wherever else, for their kind comments. And, I want to specifically not thank one user at Whedonesque who denounced my choice to propose publicly. I don't have accounts at those places, but I do read there.
This is one Buffy romance that won't end tragically!
Soon to be married,
Dillon & Sarin
Congratulations to Dillon and Sarin.
