UEFA Champions League:

UEFA Super Cup: winner 2003, 2007

• One of the game's most enduring goal-poachers, 'Pippo' Inzaghi began his career with home-town club Piacenza; enjoyed free-scoring loan spells at AlbinoLeffe and Verona before doing the same with Piacenza and earning a move to Serie A club Parma in 1995/96.

• Struggled at Parma but soared to prominence the following season at Atalanta, scoring 24 goals, claiming the Capocannoniere crown and making his senior Italy debut in the Tournoi de France against Brazil.

• A stellar season in Bergamo convinced Juventus to lure him to Turin, where he scored 58 league and 27 European goals in four years at the Stadio Delle Alpi; he won the Scudetto in his first season and was a runner-up in the UEFA Champions League to Real Madrid CF.

• Moved to Milan in 2001, winning the UEFA Champions League in 2002/03 − on penalties in the final against Juventus − and Serie A (though injured for most of campaign) in 2003/04.

• A difficult 2006/07 season ended in his Athens apotheosis as he scored twice in the UEFA Champions League final defeat of Liverpool FC and struck another two goals in the FIFA Club World Cup showpiece, in which Milan defeated CA Boca Juniors 4-2.

• Scored 25 goals in 57 appearances for Italy over a ten-year period and played at UEFA EURO 2000 (two goals) and in three FIFA World Cups, though he managed only one finals start (against Mexico in 2002) and one goal (versus the Czech Republic in Azzurri's 2006 triumph in Germany).

• His double against Madrid on Matchday 4 of the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League made him the joint leading scorer in European club competition – with 70 goals – but he was ruled out for six months after damaging ligaments in his left knee against US Città di Palermo a week later.

• Called time on a playing career which spanned more than two decades in order to take up a coaching role with AC Milan.
