03.12.12 - 1992 World Chess Championship challenger

(Alf
Wilhelm Lundberg). Nigel's second simul will
take place on Friday 7th December, starting at 6pm. Players
rated below 2300 can take part. Entry Fee £50.
In Aid of Chess in Schools and
Communities
All proceeds will go to the charity Chess in
Schools and Communities which delivers chess to inner city
schools in England and Wales. See
www.chessinschools.co.uk to see how you can get
involved.
To book a place on the second simul email or call Robert
Chandler 07828 150383 or 0207 598 6596.
A grandmaster from the age of 19, Nigel
Short is Britain’s most recognisable name in the chess
world. He has had a distinguished career of which the
highpoint was a match with Garry Kasparov for the world
championship title in 1993 at London’s Savoy Theatre.
05.12.12 -
Judit Polgar, grandmaster, on her father's determination to
raise chess playing prodigies.
Presenter - Jenni Murray
30.11.12 - Today marked the opening of the
4th London Chess Classic, which succeeds last year’s
tournament as the strongest ever tournament in Britain.
Note, I’ve not described it as an opening ceremony as it was
a generally informal affair. Anyone who comes to London
looking for pomp and ceremony should go to watch the
Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace; the London Chess
Classic is a more relaxed affair.

The press conference was a tad later than we
promised – apologies to those of you watching online – as
Magnus Carlsen and Judit Polgar were whisked off for a
photo-shoot at the London Eye and it took time to get them
back to Olympia through the London traffic.
Meanwhile, the other top GMs,
back at Olympia ...

The 4th London Chess Classic 2012 will again
offer free admission to children for the duration of the
event which runs from December 1st to 10th.
Once again we are offering a
comprehensive program of schools
activities.
Adult and junior ticket holders receive
admission to the tournament, which is being staged at
London's prestigious Olympia Conference Centre, plus a
guaranteed seat in the
auditorium and access to the Commentary Room where some
of the UK's leading Grandmasters will give insights into the
play and answer questions.
The field is
now complete and is absolutely stellar, with world
number one Magnus Carlsen, the winner of the first two
London Chess Classic tournaments trying to unseat the 13th
world champion Vladimir Kramnik who won in 2011. The world
champion Vishy Anand has yet to take the London Chess
Classic title and having retained the world crown earlier
this year, he will be looking to add the LCC to his long
list of tournament victories.
