    Suspect in Tulare County reservation shootings has died, authorities say

    The man suspected of  fatally shooting three people and wounding three children, including his two daughters, at a Central California Indian reservation has died, authorities said.

    The Tulare County Sheriff's Department confirmed that the suspect had been identified as Hector Celaya, 31. Celaya was shot by deputies early Sunday after a low-speed chase.

    Tulare County shooting a 'once-in-a-lifetime call,' responder says

    It was a "once-in-a-lifetime call," one that Shelby Charley Jr. said he hoped to never hear.

    “One moment we’re here at the firehouse joking around, gettingready to eat some dinner,” said  Charley, an engineer at the TuleRiver Fire Department. “Next thing we know, we’re walking into a murder.”

    Cal State San Bernardino student shot by police is identified

    A graduate student fatally shot by police at Cal State San Bernardino was identified Sunday as Bartholomew Williams, 38, authorities said.

    The shooting occurred about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, after university police officers responded to a disturbance involving Williams at an off-campus housing complex, according to a statement released by the school.

    Tow-truck driver killed by alleged drunk driver on 405 Freeway

    A tow-truck driver helping a stranded motorist along the 405 Freeway in Long Beach was killed early Sunday after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver, authorities said.

    The tow-truck driver, identified as Faapuna Manu, stopped along the freeway's right shoulder near the Orange Avenue exit about 2 a.m. to help the stranded driver, California Highway Patrol reported. Manu was standing at the driver's door of his truck inflating a spare tire when a Toyota veered onto the shoulder, striking Manu and the vehicle.

    3 killed, 4 wounded in Tulare County shooting

    Three people were fatally shot and four others wounded, including two young children, Saturday night on the Tule River Reservation in Tulare County, authorities said. 

    The suspect, who fled with his two young daughters, was later shot by sheriff’s deputies and taken into custody, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department. The two girls, who were among those shot, were rescued.

    Drunk driver who hit teen outside school gets prison time

    An impaired Costa Mesa driver who struck a Newport Harbor High School student crossing the street outside the school was sentenced Friday to seven years in state prison.

    Marnie Jo Lippincott, 39, pleaded guilty in September in Orange County Superior Court to felony driving under the influence. The charges included enhancements for causing great bodily injury or paralysis, as well as a misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license.

    Police killing of grad student in dorm a 'tragedy,' university says

    A graduate student at Cal State San Bernardino was fatally shot Saturday night by university police after a violent altercation at a dorm that sent one officer to the hospital.

    Sid Robinson, a spokesman for the university police department, told KTLA News the shooting was a "tragedy" and a "terrible way" to end the semester.

    A veteran Coast Guardsman killed last week when his boat was rammed by suspected smugglers was remembered at a memorial service Sunday as a patriot.

    Police kill graduate student in dorm at Cal State San Bernardino

    Police fatally shot a graduate student at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday night.

    Lt. Paul Williams of the San Bernardino Police Department told the Press-Enterprise that university police officers responded to a disturbance at a dorm. A graduate student got into an altercation with the officers, who opened fire. The student was pronounced dead at the scene and one of the officers was taken to a hospital for treatment, Williams told the paper.

    LAPD apologizes to family of Notorious B.I.G. for autopsy's premature release

    The Los Angeles Police Department has apologized to the family of rapper Notorious B.I.G. for failing to warn them that it planned to make his autopsy public 15 years after his slaying.

    The Los Angeles County coroner's office made the autopsy of the rapper, whose real name was Christopher George Latore Wallace, public after the LAPD OKd its release Friday. The Police Department blamed the snafu on an administrative error.

    Wrong-way driver faces criminal charges in fatal Victorville crash

    A 33-year-old Phelan man who allegedly drove the wrong way on a freeway in Victorville at extremely high speeds, causing a head-on crash that killed his passenger, will face criminal charges, authorities said.Ilich Ernesto Vargas was being held on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing major injury and death in the early morning incident Saturday on Interstate 15, according to CHP Officer Matt Hunt. Vargas, who had to be subdued with Tasers by officers after the crash, showed signs of drug intoxication, and officials are awaiting toxological results, Hunt said. Vargas, who suffered a broken right leg and other injuries, may face more serious charges as the investigation continues, Hunt added.

    The dead passenger was identified as Kellie Sue Hughes, 50, of Pinon Hills, who was wearing her seatbelt, the CHP reported. The driver of the other car, David Ahmed, 28 of Ft. Irwin, was being treated at a local hospital for abrasions and possible back injury.

    Man stole same Bentley twice, authorities say

    Robert Ponti must have really wanted a 2005 Bentley Coupe – he was arrested twice in four days with the same stolen car.

    The odd saga began Tuesday afternoon, when Riverside County sheriff's deputies spotted the luxury car parked in a modest neighborhood in Jurupa Valley. When they checked the registration, authorities said, they discovered the Bentley had been reported stolen from a Brea home while the owners were out of town.

    Sheriff's captain critically injured in car crash

    A veteran Los Angeles County sheriff’s captain was critically injured Friday night when the county car she was driving collided head-on with another vehicle in the Santa Clarita Valley area east of Castaic Lake, officials said.

    The driver of the other car, a 38-year-old man from Elizabeth Lake, suffered moderate injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. He was not identified.

    3 found dead in Azusa home were siblings, friend says

    The three people found dead this week inside a burning Azusa home were siblings whose father had recently died and who were on the verge of losing the house, a family friend said Saturday.

    The victims –- two women and a man roughly in their 50s -– all had gunshot wounds to the upper body, authorities said. Coroner's officials have not released their names or determined how they died.
