Biography

Melitta Sollmann won her first title as 1976 European Youth Champion and in 1977 she was fifth at the World Championships. Her best year was 1979 when she became East German, European and World Champion. She won a silver medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics, also repeating at the 1980 Europeans, and winning the 1981 East German and World titles. In the next few years Sollmann won one bronze at the European Championships (1982) and one silver at the World Championships (1983). After her retirement Sollmann studied to become a coach, but after German re-unification she had to re-train as an office administrator.
