Shame on you Michael Bunker for writing this book! The theme toys with my own soul as I manage this world, but more on that later, maybe.
Clay Richter is fed up. He’s a man who has come to the conclusion that he lives in a prison of his own making, choosing the bars instead of the freedom that is readily available to him. With a simple decision to say “no” to the concrete world around him and “yes” to a life of hard work and satisfaction, he leaves Brooklyn for his home in Ithaca.
Clay leaves the big city in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, with a minimalist backpack. Along the way he encounters individuals that help to put words to his thoughts, show him that kindness is still a human tendency and many are just as frustrated, but even more wide awake than he is.
This is not a survival or prepper story. This isn’t a religious or political one either. This story is about a call that every human has in their heart to live free and the chains and manipulations that outside forces place on us to squash that freedom.
Wick is a prequel to Bunker’s post-apocalyptical work, The Last Pilgrim. The Last Pilgrim sits on my shelf. I have had it for a while, but haven’t been able to read it because I have been so busy and committed to other book reviews. However, reading Wick has peeked my interest and I’m assuming it will yours too, if you haven’t read it.
So, I’ll choose to not open my “own soul” to you here. But I would recommend reading Wick and then checking out The Last Pilgrim too.

Friends,
Greeting to you all and Peace in the name of Him who, if we will do delight ourselves in Him, will give Himself to us as the desire of our heart. When He is our first and foremost desire, He will reveal Himself to us in a greater way -- conforming us to Himself even as we are eternally placed in Him. He is the one we seek when we seek wisdom and light, and He Himself is Wisdom and Light personified. Look unto Jesus Christ -- see what He is like and taste His qualities and works for He is good. How do we become conformed to Him? It is not by “being a Christian” -- if we indeed are one. “Being a Christian” is a stasis, a condition, a position. Being conformed to Christ is a movement, a growth, a life. We are conformed to Him when we eat the Bread of Life, drink the Water of Life, examine the King of Heaven and Earth, put off the love of this world and false suitors and recline on Him who is the true Friend, and Master, and Love.
Too many mockers, scoffers, disobedient railers, and world-lovers call themselves “Christians” and recline on that title as their hope. What have the “Christians” done for you? Let us be found in Christ and daily seek Him and likeness unto Him and leave modernist “Christianity” to it’s love of the world and the rudiments of the world. Jesus Christ loved His own that were in the world, and loved them unto the end. Not that His love unto them did end, but “unto the end” of the extent and work necessary for their redemption. He loves them all the more for eternity; but while He was in the world, His specific work of love towards their redemption was worked to the end. So should we not love Him while we are in the world, since He did so love us? So many carnal and offensive works go on in His name. So many people carry His name on them like a logo or a brand. Do they not know that His mark on us, besides the love of Him that seeks Him out and flees from the world as savior and provider, is a self-sacrificing, moral, honest, true, caring, hospitable, deep, demonstrate love of those who are His? Do you know that?
Whose mark is on you? I pray that we will be more practiced at loving Him and those who are His than we are at conforming to a system of this religious heresy that today bears His Holy name.

Michael Bunker, who is taking the months of December and January off for his family's December Project, sent this letter out on his DP List and asked if it could be transcribed and posted on his blog for others to read, so here it is...

Friends,
Greeting to you all in the name of Jesus Christ, the Wisdom and Knowledge of God and perfect Redeemer, Savior, and King of His elect. I am greatly enjoying the time away during this December Project and it has helped me to see more clearly the vanity of every thing under the sun -- even preaching. I know why the apostles themselves were a savor of death unto death unto almost all, and the sweet savor of life unto life for only a few. Paul said that the very few "in the sight of God" speak in Christ, but the "many" (which is to say -- almost all) "corrupt the Word of God." I have known not but a small handful of people in the entirety of my life who have been loyal friends -- and not just to me, for it is nothing to abandon me – most, indeed, after wading into the deeper things of Christ, abandon Him and are disloyal to Him and even of what they say they have learned of Him. I have been pondering on this and meditating on it. Again, I exempt from all charges a very small handful of people I have known, but even some on this miniscule mailing list have shown, and will show themselves to be inconstant and lovers/friends of lies rather than truth. Ninety percent of the longest running supporters I have had through the years have dropped out -- many siding with wicked railers and attackers -- and all since I started preaching through John Owen's "The Glory of Christ." This is no idle coincidence. One man said, "There are problems in the ministry." When the preaching of Jesus Christ and His Glory and His Commandments exposes wolves, charlatans, and sociopaths -- you blame the ministry? What say you of Paul? Were there "problems in the ministry" when Paul "was in danger from false brethren"? You fools. I tell my students to do me this favor... Listen to one of my sermons or a radio broadcast of the Glory of Christ. Then write down if your soul has been benefited -- yay or nay? Then write down one benefit that has accrued to your soul by my enemies and attackers. Have they invested thousands of hours into you? Are you improved by them? When Christ is preached faithfully many will be shown to be apostates and few will evidence eternal life. Some will flee to surface ministries -- most with a superficial "reformed" doctrine. They will love ministries that talk ABOUT John Owen and TULIP, but not one that translates and preaches what John Owen SAID about Christ and Salvation.
Oh, I have leaned a lot. Nothing I didn’t already know, but I now have a keener sense of the reality of spiritual entropy in this dark age -- and the differences between my audience today, and that of John Owen or John Bunyan. I can hear the voices saying, "Oh, Mr. Bunyan, there are problems in your ministry or you wouldn’t be hated and in jail." Bunyan and Rutherford suffered the persecution of chains, but they had an audience of righteous seekers of the Kingdom. What would they do today -- spared prison because any old gospel will do in this wicked age, preaching to dullards and traitors and worldlings who long not for the Celestial City, but for Vanity Fair.
I exposed the Utilitarian and Entitlement faction in our community almost 1 year ago -- Jan 9. I pointed them out and told them the truth of themselves. I have the letter in my hands. Since that day, and corresponding with my teaching on The Glory of Christ, we have seen 100% of that faction leave the community – and now they are doing what they can to infect those of you out there who were not here to be infected. They are prowling around on Facebook, Twitter, and the Internet seeking whom they may devour. Some of you think to chit-chat with them as if they have ever preached truth to your soul -- shame on you. I don’t mind being abandoned and slandered for teaching Christ. Straw men are no match for the justice of God. Alexander the Coppersmith and Demetrius the Silversmith are upset that I have turned over their idols and they have done me much evil. So be it. You go interview them (some of you have!) and judge between me and them. Owen said that those who abandon truth for lies will have it the worst in the judgment. I doubt it not. But today's "Christian" would not like to hear what Owen said, they would just like to share and post biographies of Owen, and Pink and Jonathan Edwards.
"For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ…" -- 2 Cor. 2:15-17...

As you may know, I have stepped down as an Elder in our fellowship, and the first and foremost reason is so that I can illustrate and model obedience to others who apparently have no idea what that means. I was instructed by my Elder, David Sifford, that some people who have left here on bad terms over the past year are using my Facebook, Twitter, etc. friends lists to attack me and the ministry and the group here. I am "officially" off-line, though Mr. Sifford has approved me doing what I can to excise this cancer as much as possible. We are of the opinion that such things need to be cutoff and removed, and that not just those who do such things, but those who have pleasure (offer support and comfort) to those who do such things are to be avoided, according to the clear teaching of the scriptures. I have written a long letter, included in my DP letters explaining my position, and will be writing more on the subject, DV. I will send that letter to you if you will request it via snail mail. I have asked everyone, friend or foe, to listen to a MB sermon or radio show on The Glory of Christ, and write down if their soul has been aided or assisted via the ministry. Likewise, write down if your soul has been benefited by my accusers and attackers... Larry Keffer, Mihai Gurau, Mark Contra, Chris Woods, etc. If you are of the opinion that all are the same to God, and that black is as good as white, and that innuendo, straw-men, and false charges are the same as truth and the plain and clear preaching of Christ, then you are free to have that opinion and the consequences that go with it. I am not going into the long trap of trying to defend myself against private lies and snipers who hide in darkness. What I will say is that I leave it all to God, and will let Him sort the sheep from the goats. In the mean time, I am faithfully and obediently going to continue in submission to both my calling, and to the Church of Jesus Christ. Our policy is to preach the Gospel freely, but not to fellowship with those who oppose themselves, or those who give Demetrius and Alexander a hearing -- despite the obvious fruit of THEIR ministry. So do not take it as personal. I was informed by Mr. Sifford that there were many people on my Facebook list who had either recently added as "friends," or were continuing in fellowship with, those who were now doing this evil. He provided me with a list for the purpose of me "unfriending" those who have done so. I have done no research on the subject, being in the midst of the December Project. If this was done in error, then you have my apology and I will correct it. If, however, you are one who is giving aid and comfort to those who lie, slander, and attack while opposing the clear teaching of God, then you have fairly been informed as to why I have done this.
