Match Review: CD Guadalajara 0-1 FC Barcelona B

Barca B made it 2 wins in a row with a fine victory on the road at Guadalajara this evening.

Eusebio will be delighted with the grit and character shown by his young team, who really dug in to earn the 3 points, especially after a late sending off for Sergi Gomez.

After a less than satisfactory start to the season which saw them lose the opening two games and their defensive woes exposed time and again, it was important that Barca provided a performance to the standard expected. Even during the win v Sabadell last weekend the flaws were obvious to all concerned, and a better team would certainly have sent Barca crashing to another defeat.

Oier was being worked well by the home side in the first period and had to intervene on a number of occasions to preserve his clean sheet, most notably when he did well to stop Susaeta. Kepa and Vicente were in the thick of the action but it was FCB’s Lobato who had the best chance of the first half, his effort going just millimetres wide.

Much of the 2nd half action was taking place in a congested midfield. On 68 minutes Sergi Gomez was shown a direct red card, his second red in 3 games. It provides Eusebio with a real headache as the player, no doubt, has to serve a reasonably lengthy ban and Barca are fairly thin on the ground as far as centre halves are concerned. This meant a slight reshuffle for the manager which included the introduction of 17 year old Cameroon starlet Macky Frank Bagnack, making his debut for the B side. It’s a wonderful turnaround in fortunes for a great prospect, who was out of the game for 18 months following a nasty leg break. Good things are expected from him and hopefully he will graduate from ‘la masia’ with flying colours.

The sending off seemed to spur 10 man Barca into life and some great footwork from Lobato on 77 saw him pick out new signing Luis Alberto for his first of the season. A real ‘backs against the wall’ performance from Barca in the last quarter of an hour saw them take all 3 points from this fascinating contest.
