Why is She famous

Carla is the first Caribbean model to be featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue after making her SI debut in 2006 with a jaw dropping, three-page spread. “When I go back home it’s like ‘Yeah! A Sports Illustrated swimsuit model!’” she says. “It’s a great feeling.”

Carla Campbell Quote

" Modeling is not all glam and glitz but hard work."

87 Sex Appeal

When it comes to Carla, the term “sexy” seems sadly inadequate. That’s because the long-legged island goddess has the kind of jaw-dropping curves generally reserved for racetracks. Despite her generous assets, Carla is actually most proud of her lips. "I think my lips are very sensual and I'd like to keep them that way,” she says. “You look at my lips and you think: 'Whoa, I'd like to kiss that girl!’”

83 Success

Despite being a relative newcomer to the fashion industry, Carla has already made a splash with some of the world’s biggest brands. The busty Kingston native has thus far appeared in high-profile ads for Saks Fifth Avenue, Victoria’s Secret, L’Oreal, Nike, and FUBU. Her heavenly body has also been featured in publications like Sports Illustrated, Maxim, FHM, Esquire, Vibe, Smooth, Seventeen, InStyle, CosmoGirl, and SkyWritings, Air Jamaica’s in-flight magazine.

In addition to being the first Caribbean to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Carla is also the second Caribbean model to appear in a Victoria’s Secret’s campaign and she is an inductee of the Pulse Fashion and Beauty Hall of Fame in Jamaica.

Carla Campbell Biography

Carla Campbell was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1981. After years of fun in the Caribbean sun, Carla finally started to get serious about modeling in 1997 when she entered the prestigious Pulse Model Search. As she recalls, "I really wanted to succeed in the business so I took the encouraging advice of friends and family who thought I had that ‘something’ and went after it."

Although Carla didn’t win the competition, she did come in a very respectable third place. Perhaps more importantly, her exceptional beauty and poise also won her a Pulse modeling contract. During her short time with the agency, Carla distinguished herself with appearances in a number of regional magazines, like SkyWriting, Air Jamaica’s in-flight magazine. She also gained a deeper appreciation for the business. "The pace is fast,” she admits. “You either keep abreast or lose out!"

Following her apprenticeship with Pulse, Carla moved to the heart of the action in New York City. It was there that she began her relationship with Karin Models and, later, IMG. It proved to be a savvy business move as IMG introduced her to account executive Kyle Hagler. Known within the industry as “The Transformer,” Hagler has made a career out of turning models like Heidi Klum, Liya Kebede, Diana Dondoe, and Ujjwala Raut into superstars by playfully altering their images. Luckily, he also applied the same magic to Carla, giving her a classier and decidedly more svelte look.

Carla and Hagler’s hard work paid off and before long Carla was appearing in ads for companies like Saks Fifth Avenue, L’Oreal, Nike, FUBU, and even Victoria’s Secret. Her beautiful body also began gracing glossy publications like Maxim, FHM, Vibe, Smooth, Seventeen, InStyle, CosmoGirl, and Esquire, who named Carla one of the world’s four sexiest supermodels.

Pulse also honored her incredible achievements in 2005 by making Carla the 11th inductee to their Fashion and Beauty Hall of Fame. According to Pulse's CEO, Kingsley Cooper, "We felt that Carla could be one of the world's top talents… This was exactly what we wanted. The result is there to be seen." Carla was equally excited to be honored by her first agency. "I am very delighted to accept this honour,” she said at the time. “Of course, with all my hard work and dedication, I am reaping fruitful rewards."

The best, however, was still yet to come. Carla kicked off 2006 with a coveted appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. “It was a fabulous shoot,” she said. “I am hoping that this will give my career a major boost and I am ready for the opportunities that will come.” With her dazzling good looks and buoyant personality something tells us life will continue to be a beach for Carla Campbell.
