LATEST NEWS

Matt Lowton played at right-back in the game against Southampton but couldn't prevent a 1-0 win for the visitors.

He will be eager to make amends at the Baggies on Saturday.

WHAT HE SAID

Hopefully I can follow in the footsteps of Kyle Walker here.

Joining Villa is fantastic. It's a massive club in the Premier League with a big fan base.

It's every boy's childhood dream to play in the Premier League.

WHAT OTHERS SAID

Darren Bent: It wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't follow in the footsteps of another former Blades player Kyle Walker, who was on loan here and is now England's first-choice right-back.

Marc Albrighton: Lowts has settled in well. It helps when you score left-foot screamers like the one he smashed home against Swansea!

Joe Bennett: He's really composed on the ball! He likes to get forward like me. He's going to be a good player for Villa.

Gabby Agbonlahor: Matt is an excellent full-back, a good defender and always looking to get forward and attack too. He's quick, enthusiastic and will only improve.

MINI PROFILE

Matthew Lowton became Villa's third summer signing when he joined from Sheffield United in July 2012.

Lowton arrived at the club just a few days after Moroccan international Karim El Ahmadi, as new manager Paul Lambert's squad began to take shape ahead of the 2012-13 season.

The Chesterfield-born ace is predominantly a right-back but has displayed his versatility in the past by operating in a number of roles across the back four and in midfield for the Blades.

A product of Sheffield United's academy, Lowton progressed through the youth ranks before making his first team debut as a substitute against Cardiff in March 2010.

He had already gained experience of senior football during loan spells at non-league outfit Sheffield FC and Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

Lowton contributed to Ferencvaros winning promotion during the 2009-10 campaign before returning to Bramall Lane.

The following season, he featured 32 times for United and chipped in with four goals.

He was an ever-present for Danny Wilson's team in 2011-12, playing in 52 matches in all competitions.

Lowton made 47 appearances in League One as United narrowly missed out on promotion with a penalty shootout defeat to Huddersfield in the play-off final.

He also found the net six times during the league campaign.

INTERESTING FACT

Matt Lowton spent a spell on loan at Sheffield United's Hungarian partner side, Ferencvaros.
