Sky Sports will broadcast a new series of hour-long Sporting Heroes interviews every Wednesday evening starting 9 January.

The series promises to take viewers up close and personal with some of the biggest names in the world of sport from athletics, football, golf, cricket, boxing, rugby union, formula one, racing and more.

Sky Sports presenter Gary Newbon will conduct many of the interviews, but in some of the episodes, sports stars will interview their own sporting heroes.

The shows will air on Wednesday nights and start with athletics as former European and world champion sprinter Kriss Akabusi interviews his sporting idol Daley Thompson on Wednesday 9 January.

We’ll find out about what drove Thompson to gold medal success at the Moscow Olympics of 1980 and the Los Angeles Games of 1984 with plenty of colourful stories from two men who’ve reached the top of their sport.
