Fighters loyal to Libya's transitional leaders have arrested Abdel Rahman Abdel Hamid, a nephew of the fugitive leader Moamer Gaddafi in the port city of Sirte, the broadcaster Al Jazeera reported Sunday.
Abdel Hamid is a commander of a pro-Gaddafi brigade in Sirte, where interim authority troops are fighting a fierce battle to capture the city, the television report said, DPA reported.
The anti-Gaddafi forces have set up checkpoints around Sirte, Gaddafi's hometown, to prevent Gaddafi loyalists from fleeing the city, Al Jazeera said.
