Welcome to the Dutch Cheese Museum

At the 'Waagplein', in the middle of the centre of Alkmaar, you can find the historical Weighhouse, in 1390 built as a chapel for the Holy Ghost.
In 1576 the building became the Weighhouse for cheese.
The Dutch Cheese Museum is housed in this monumental Weigh house.

The preparation of dairy products throughout the centuries, trade and rural life are all exhibited in this museum.

The collection imcludes historical utensils in the preparation of dairy products, film- and photographic images and paintings (including 24c 16th century portraits of Holland women).

The museum museum is ccompletely wheelchair accessible.
