Conservation Connection e-blast...the latest news from NRCS Massachusetts and our partnersSent via e-mail on April 17, 2012 Agriculture and Interior departments announce joint wildlife conservation effortsThe U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in partnership with the Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service have announced funding for a new Working Lands for Wildlife partnership, which allows farmers and forest landowners to use innovative approaches to restore and protect habitat for at-risk wildlife species such as the New England cottontail rabbit. The application ranking cut-off for current funds is April 30, 2012. Pioneer Valley conservation districts host pollinator habitat tourJolie Goldenetz Dollar, Pollinator Habitat Restoration Specialist, Mid-Atlantic Region Xerces Society was the guest speaker and leader of the Hampden County and Hampshire County conservation districts' Pollinator Habitat and Diversity Presentation and Farm Tour on Friday, April 13th. The tour was held at That’s-a-Plenty Farm in Hadley. In 2010, owners Michael and Cathy Katz received technical and financial help from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to transform 1.5 acres into habitat that supports bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
