Department of State to Host Conference on Food Security and Minimizing Postharvest Loss

On Feb. 19, the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, the Office of Global Food Security, and the Foreign Service Institute will host a conference on “Food Security and Minimizing Postharvest Loss: Markets, Applied Research, and Innovation.” The event will take place in the Marshall Center at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

The conference will include State Department Officials and representatives from the private sector, non-governmental arena, academic institutions, foreign diplomatic corps, and other foreign affairs agencies. Participants will discuss ways to feed more people in the developing world by reducing the loss of food already produced, such as scaling up the use of effective storage, marketing, and processing technologies that can have a profound impact on global food security.

The opening remarks and first panel of the event will be open to the press.
Pre-set time for video cameras: 8:15 a.m. from the 21st Street entrance.
Final access time for journalists and still photographers: 8:30 a.m. from the 21st Street entrance.

Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
