Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED)

White Sands Missile Range provides advanced Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (C-IED) test environments and infrastructure to assess systems and technology capabilities and limitations in response to emerging threats, evolving Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTP), and tactical environments.

System Integration/Establish Final Configuration

  • Install the Directed Energy (DE) C-IED System Under Test onto the test vehicle
  • Operational Check of Integrated C-IED System
  • Characterization of output energy pattern of the system
  • Personnel Exposure Limit Testing

Implement Joint Test Protocols from JIEDDO (Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization) Joint Test Board

  • Execute Baseline System Performance Testing by characterizing the system under test in a benign environment
  • Execute Tactical Scenarios Testing using theater realistic conditions (roads, structures, and radio frequency environment)
  • Assess Interoperability by assessing interface and fratricide effects with other C-IED systems
  • Assess Blue Force Communications/Systems Compatibility

Conduct Necessary Safety Release Testing

  • Conduct Vibration and Climate Testing (MIL-STD-810 Environmental Testing)
  • Conduct Compatibility Testing to radio frequency hazard to fuel, ordnance, personnel, and blue equipment (Electromagnetic Compatibility MIL-STD-461/464)
