North: Darebin Creek Trail

The Darebin Creek runs from the north of Melbourne to the Ring Road in Bundoora (outer section). From there the creek flows south past La Trobe University to join the Yarra in Alphington (inner section). The Darebin Creek Trail is not yet continuous - see box opposite.

Darebin Creek Trail all but complete

September 2012 We are pleased to announce that the last missing link in Darebin Council’s section of the Darebin Creek Trail has been completed!  Adjacent to the Bundoora Park Golf Course, the section between Clough Parade and Gronn Street now benefits from a sealed path, connecting the Ring Road to Lower Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe.

Show your appreciation and say thank you to Darebin City Council for their contribution to connecting the trail. Click here for a link to email Darebin Mayor and Councillors.

In other news, Banyule have started construction of their last section of the trail under Lower Heidelberg Road into Sparks Reseve (as shown in photograph).

The permit renewal applications are in the mail as Banyule, Yarra and Boroondara reaffirm their support for the Darebin Bridge.

Now all eyes point toward the State Government.  We need to let the Baillieu Government know that it is time to progress the critical Darebin Creek Bridge missing link.

You can write to the Baillieu Government to remind them of the importance of the Darebin Crerek Bridge connection.

Small section of path remaining to be built

3 May 2010 There is but a small section of path left to complete the northern section of the Darebin Creek Trail in Epping.  The map below shows the approximate alignment of the remaining 750m section to be built.

The finished bridge at Tyler St. Thanks to member Ian Slack for the photo. Ian says: "The access from the South is now quite good but the Northern approach whilst vastly improved could have been better designed with a better approach angle."

Please write and say thanks

We encourage members in Darebin to log on to your home page where you will find the contacts for the Mayor and your local State member to send them a thank you note.

You can send thanks to the Minister with responsibility for Parks Victoria with this link.

These thank you notes are always read and considered so it is worth putting in a bit about how you plan to use the trail when it is improved and why it will make a difference.
