DC Names New RED LANTERNS, GL CORPS Writers as Fialkov Exits

Update: Joshua Hale Fialkov has confirmed via his personal blog that he has left both Lantern titles he was scheduled to take over in June 2013 at DC Comics.

He also confirmed that the decision was due to editorial and creative differences.

"There were editorial decisions about the direction of the book that conflicted with the story I was hired to tell, and I felt that it was better to let DC tell their story the way they want," Fialkov wrote on his blog.

Meanwhile, DC's Executive Director of Publicity Alex Segura announced via twitter that Van Jensen will take over as writer of Green Lantern Corps with incoming Green Lantern writer Robert Venditti co-plotting, while Charles Soule, whose run on Swamp Thing just began with the publisher, will take over Red Lanterns as writer.

Original Story: Just hours after confirmation that Andy Diggle has left Action Comics before his first issue even hit the stands, a rumor popped up on BleedingCool that Joshua Hale Fialkov had followed suit, also leaving his incoming series of Green Lantern Corps and Red Lanterns before his June 2013 debut on both titles.

While Newsarama waits for official comment from Fialkov and DC Comics, ComicBookResources reports that they have unnamed independent confirmation that the rumor is true, and Fialkov has left both titles "due to creative differences."

While Diggle had done extensive press for his Action Comics run, scheduled originally to start in March 2013 and pushed to April 2013, Fialkov had only done select interviews talking about his plans for the pair of Lantern titles since the announcement of his takeover one month ago. Both titles were to feature Guy Gardner heavily as he struggled with his brief past as a Red Lantern alongside his work as a Green Lantern honor guard member. With the run not scheduled to begin until June, there is now doubt whether any of Fialkov's work or plans for the titles will see the light of day.

Despite reportedly leaving these two titles at DC Comics, the writer would still have a high-profile debut in June 2013, taking over Ultimate Comics Ultimates for Marvel Comics. He is also writing a video game according to his own recent tweets, though no details have emerged yet about where or for whom.

When reached, DC Comics declined to comment on this story.
