You may select resources you find when searching the Moving Here catalogue (at www.movinghere.org.uk/search) or choose from our gallery (www.movinghere.org.uk/gallery). You may also scan in your own pictures and upload them to this site. The second part of the form asks for the following information. If you do not wish to add any illustrations you can send your story at any time by choosing the Finish button.

If you change your mind about an item you have uploaded, use the delete to remove it - your story and other chosen images will not be deleted.

Scanning Your own Images

The two most common methods of creating a digital image are by scanning an existing photograph or document using a flatbed scanner or by taking a photograph using a digital camera. These two methods have the following image information in common.

Both flatbed scanners and digital cameras either come with software, or have functionality built in, that allows the user to alter the format of the image being scanned or photographed as required. This includes, image resolution (usually in dots per inch, dpi), image type (colour, grayscale, black & white) and image file format (jpeg, tiff etc).

The images used in the Moving Here stories have a resolution of 72dpi. The larger dpi settings should not be used as this will increase the size of the image file, and will affect the speed with which they can be emailed to Moving Here and viewed from our website.

Similarly, though less important, the image file size is increased according to the image type, i.e. whether it is colour, grayscale or black & white. A colour image contains more information and would therefore be a larger file than a black & white one. Obviously the image should ideally be presented as it is in the original format, be it colour or grayscale.

All images should be submitted to Moving Here in JPEG format. A JPEG or JPG (Joint Photographic Expert Group) is a compressed image file format and is very common on the web.
