Golden Joystick Awards 2010: the full list of winners

Who won what at gaming's most golden award ceremony?

Racing Game of the Year, in association with T3

Winner: Forza Motorsport 3
First runner-up: Need for Speed: Shift
Second runner-up: Colin McRae: Dirt 2

We say: As if being awarded a GamesRadar super review 10 out of 10 wasn't enough to make the people at Microsoft and developer Turn 10 Studios insanely happy for the rest of their lives, Forza Motorsport 3 now walks away with a much deserved Golden Joystick. Apart from receiving a sensual foot massage from Jeremy Clarkson, how can things get any better for the Forza team?

Soundtrack of the Year, in association with Metal Hammer

Winner: Final Fantasy XIII
First runner-up: Brutal Legend
Second runner-up: Assassin's Creed 2

We say: Unlike the game, we didn't have to wait 20 hours for FFXIII's soundtrack to get good. It was cracking from the get go and we were genuinely thankful for that. It's what we've come to expect from Final Fantasy. We do feel sad that Brutal Legend missed out, though. And probably so do Metal Hammer.

RPG of the year, in association with GamesRadar

Winner: Mass Effect 2
First runner-up: Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
Second runner-up: Final Fantasy XIII

We say: BioWare's sci-fi epic a worthy winner purely on the strength of the Miranda sexy-time sequences alone.

Puzzle Game of the Year, in association with NGamer

Winner: World of Goo
First runner-up: Professor Layton and Pandora's Box
Second runner-up: Scribblenauts

We say: Innovative. Artistic. Brilliant. World of Goo is a game created by two men. Two men that used to work for mega-corp EA. It has won lots of awards already. If it did not win in this category, we were all ready to burn the entire country of England to the ground with the hot fires of nerd rage. Luckily we did not have to do that. It won a Golden Joystick. Or rather, a Goolden Joystick.

Sports Game of the Year, in association with Mousebreaker

Winner: FIFA 10
First runner-up: Wii Sports Resort
Second runner-up: Skate 3

We say: Look, don't even get us started on footballer's wages. Do they deserve their eighty million kazillion pounds a week wages? Is that how much they should get for kicking a ball about on a Saturday and then spending the rest of the week philandering and playing snooker? Does the pope ride a catholic bear in the woods? NO is the answer. FIFA 10, however, does deserve a joystick that is golden.

So glad that mass effect won, but I'm surprised to see that red dead redemption didn't win anything

Best soundtrack FF XIII? Why? Because those who voted for it had to listen to it's generic-bore-a-thon "music" for 400 million hours, and didn't get a chance to play/listen to any other games. This is, of course, my opinion and any FFanboy messages won't be read because I don't care...

I voted for Jagex this year and last year, the mention of it on their front page was the only reason I knew about the Golden Joysticks. I do not even play it any more but still like voting for them. Glad Left 4 Dead 2 and ME2 won some top honors.

I'm digging the love for ME2 and PVZ.

How did Uncharted 2 not win any awards? It's still the best game of this generation

Glad to see ME2 win Ultimate Game of the Year. Shame Brutal legend didn't win Best soundtrack. Never played any of the FF games, so can't say if it deserves it or not. Wouldn't mind to see ME2 win best soundtrack either. But ME2 did already win 2 awards. Hopefully ME2 is still gonna be a candidate for many game sites for GOTY. Was the first and IMO still the best of the year.

I find it hard to believe that Uncharted 2 didn't win action/adventure game of the year. I mean cleary Assassin's Creed 2 was good, but still... review scores. And You couldn't have picked on older, crappier screenshot for RuneScape hahaha. That looks to be about 4 years old. The game has changed a lot since then,

What?! Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was first runner-up for Ultimate Game of the Year?! Bullshite.
  • lovinmyps3 - October 30, 2010 1:44 a.m.

Wow, I can't believe MW2 got the runner up for ultimate game of the year. Even that is more than it deserves for that broken as shit multiplayer. Mass Effect 2 deserved it, definitely.
  • Manguy17 - October 30, 2010 12:39 a.m.

4 of the things i voted for won, i am pleased.
  • gamingfreak - October 29, 2010 11:45 p.m.

Who the hell is Jagex? Where's Rocksteady? Boooooooooo! I'm happy FF XIII won the music award.
  • Camoxide - October 29, 2010 11:25 p.m.

Why use an ancient picture of Runescape?
  • elmaropwnz - October 29, 2010 11:19 p.m.

mass effect 2? good. but c'mon, there were sooo many good games...
  • Dredgon - October 29, 2010 11:14 p.m.

Mass Effect 2 definitely deserves both awards, one of the best games ever and I cannot wait until 3!!!!!
  • Jamahl - October 29, 2010 10:57 p.m.

AC was the best sandbox game I've ever played (I still play, more than 100 hours of game time)
  • RebornKusabi - October 29, 2010 10:37 p.m.

Glad to see the game I voted for in Best RPG and Ultimate Game of the Year won... although I nominated it for Soundtrack and ****-ass FF13 won... Oh well, weeaboos can have that one I guess...
