January 12- National Youth Day

National Youth Day is celebrated on 12th January in India. The day marks the birthday of Swami Vivekananda who was born on 12th Jan 1863. Swami Ji was one of the most prominent philosophers India has ever produced. He represented Indian ethnicity and astuteness. Swami Vivekananda was a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Swami Ji learned about Indian spiritual culture from Sri Ramakrishna. He was a great motivator who made India proud all over the globe.

Swami Vivekananda always emphasized over the need of educating and inspiring Indian youths. He knew it is youths that will carry the hope and expectations of the country and how right was he! Swami Ji died at a very early age of 39 but before that he had done enough to make us proud of his achievements and contributions to our spiritual culture. It was in the year 1984, when Indian government declared Swami Vivekananda’s birthday as ‘National Youth Day’ from 1985. The Government of India made it known to all of us that principles of Swamiji that he worked upon could be an enormous source of appreciation for the Indian Youth.

Teachings of Swami Vivekananda are considered as biggest philosophical assets of India. The Youth Day is meant to motivate and inculcate virtuous ideals to the Indian youths. National Youth Day is celebrated all over the country on 12th January. Schools and colleges are wonderfully decorated. Headquarters of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission observe birthday of the great man with much fanfare. Celebration are usually conducted in Hindu manner such as, Aarti, Yagya, meditation, religious discourses, home and devotional songs. Educational institutes conduct youth conferences, parades, awards, speeches, contests, narrations, colloquium, games and songs etc.

The National Youth Day is observed with great enthusiasm. It is a great day in the history of the country. The true teachings of Swami Vivekananda will inspire future generations. His ideals will be forever itched in the memories of all the Indians.
