Of the six first place finishes the LA Times earned in this year's Pictures of the Year International competition, it's hard to pick which deserves the headline most. Best Website seems too obvious. Multimedia Photographer of the Year or Editing Portfolio - Newspaper would allow a name drop (congrats, Liz O. Baylen and Mary Cooney!). But Documentary Project of the Year, Issue Reporting Picture Story - Newspaper, and Series or Special Section all promote teamwork. Maybe we could just go with...

WGN America may not be the only place to watch How I Met Your Mother, but judging by Facebook, WGN America is the place to like it. The network's HIMYM Facebook page has topped 2 million fans. That's more than the network pages for AMC, TBS, FX and Bravo... combined. And there are more People Talking About WGNA/HIMYM than Mad Men, Breaking Bad or Two and a Half Men. Between Facebook and Twitter, HIMYM on WGN America is one of the strongest social TV communities in cable.

Hollywood's biggest night had the LA Times doing everything short of infusing black diamonds into its ink to ensure they were the talk of The Town. With coverage underway well in advance, and a groundbreaking second screen experience on the latimes.com homepage on show night, their frontrunner status was a lock. In fact, much like the Best Animated Feature race, their only competition was themselves, in the form of extensive features and commentary via TheEnvelope.com, a play-at-home ballot, and a Calendar section featuring four different covers created by different artists. It was enough to make even the promo need an after party!

The Ravens aren't the only ones soaring high on Champions' wings. Scoring big with readers and advertisers, the Baltimore Sun is making a statement of its own. Coverage of the team's journey through the playoffs and to a Super Bowl victory has been lights out, from The Sun's on-site publishing in New Orleans, to its 128-page commemorative book, cheer cards, wraps and increased circulation. The big win also delivered a secondary Ravenue stream, as the Sun is now offering sweatshirts, tees and posters to celebrating fans, too.

With an opening line like, "In my five years at Google News, I’d barely ever heard anyone use the phone or raise their voice," what more convincing do you need to read Abe Epton's insightful piece on his transition from Google to the Chicago Tribune newsroom? It's inside baseball on two (very compelling) fronts and it's full of telling observations. Of particular note: the compare and contrast of the two companies' obsession with data. And readers are responding, with Poynter posting a link and shoutouts spreading across social media.
