Green Flag to fly at Reculver

26 July 2005

Reculver Country Park has been awarded a Green Flag, officially recognising it as one of the best public parks in the country.

The Green Flag award scheme is the national standard for parks and green spaces and is run by the Civic Trust. It recognises the value of green spaces in communities and rewards excellent standards of park management.

Reculver is one of 25 parks in southeast England, including Canterbury's Dane John Gardens, to win the award. Judges assess how welcoming the park is, how healthy, safe and secure it is, its cleanliness and maintenance, sustainability, conservation and heritage, community involvement, marketing and management.

Canterbury City Council's Executive member for leisure, Cllr Gillian Reuby, said: "Reculver Country Park is a beautiful area of the district and is popular with thousands of visitors each year. I'm very pleased it has secured this prestigious award and thank everybody who works so hard to keep it looking as wonderful as it does."
