Ship of Theseus

Anand Gandhi | India | Arabic, English, Hindi, Swedish | 140 mins
Australian Premiere

If none of the planks on the ship of Theseus are that of the original, is it still the same ship?

Sharing its name with a paradox based upon a ship that is constantly in a state of renewal and decay, this debut feature from acclaimed playwright Anand Gandhi takes a look at notions of identity and consequence with a compelling triptych of modern fables set in the kaleidoscopic suburbs of Mumbai.

Following three seemingly unconnected characters through the labyrinthine streets - a principled and troubled monk, a photographer who regains her sight but loses her art, and a stockbroker who becomes obsessed with the origin of his new kidney - Gandhi presents a strikingly ambitious work set in the heart of contemporary India.
