Gwyneth Paltrow's Sheer Dress and The Rules of Commando Fashion

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow, recently named "Most Beautiful Woman" by People magazine, walked the red carpet at the "Iron Man 3" premier on Wednesday night wearing a dress that was business in the front but a raging all-night party on the side. The Antonio Beradi gown had sheer paneling that exposed Paltrow's hips, quads, and butt (which, as we know, resembles the "butt of a 22-year-old stripper").

It's no longer enough to be short, tight, or low-cut, celebrity dresses are becoming more sheer, slitted, and totally unwelcoming to underwear. The subtext: "I don't need Spanx." What are the rules for pulling off such a look? In Paltrow's case, rule number one: Be prepared to own a wardrobe malfunction.

Rule rule number 2: Spanx are not an option (but perhaps that's your point).

    Rule number 3:
Make sure your bits and pieces are strategically covered up (and frame your bellybutton with a doily design).

    Rule number 4:
If no one notices your thighs, expose your stomach for extra measure.

Rule number 5: If you're going to show off your legs, you may as well aim for the full body effect.
