Moving to London’s Southwest Side

Flats for rent in London’s southwest share the leafiness of most west neighborhoods and enjoy a more quietly residential feel while still having access to their own nightlife and amenities. Formerly home to residents like Princess Diana, Beatrix Potter, Alfred Hitchcock, and Freddie Mercury, Earl’s Court is one such location that enjoys the best of different worlds.

A short commute from the city center and within walking distance of such notable London sites as Kensington Palace, Royal Albert Hall, Victoria & Albert Museum, and Harrods, Earl’s Court has its share of foot and motor traffic yet is filled with many lovely Victorian garden squares that make it feel somewhat more suburban. It has plenty of stores, pubs, restaurants, and cafés of its own to keep you occupied (and is close to those on High Street Kensington and in Chelsea and Fulham Broadway), yet it isn’t a major social scene that would threaten the peace of nights and weekends. Earl’s Court also straddles socioeconomic lines, providing a decent mix of both affluent and affordable rents as it goes from its ultra posh east side (including the regal white mansions of The Boltons—still intact, not divided into flats like most houses in London—and “Little Chelsea” on Hollywood Road, where socialites congregate) to slightly more rundown terraces in the west.

One of Earl’s Court’s most prominent sites is, perhaps, its Exhibition Centre, a large-scale conference venue that has held events like 2012 Olympics Volleyball, the Brit Awards, the London Book Fair, and assorted trade shows. The Earls Court One facility was unveiled in the 1930s with Earls Court Two to follow, but new plans have been drawn to develop this site and the surrounding area (77 acres in all) as a new high street and residential blocks. Ultimately adding a significant number of new Earl’s Court apartments available for rent, the project (to be implemented in phases over the next ten or so years) also includes new educational, daycare, and recreational facilities along with more shops and restaurants.

Earl’s Court apartments benefit from easy access to public transport. Earl’s Court tube station is a highly trafficked hub of commuters and tourists alike (there are a number of small hotels in its immediate vicinity); it services the District and Piccadilly lines, as does nearby Gloucester Road station, which services the Circle line as well. West Brompton station is also nearby for Overground trains, and it and West Kensington tube station likewise service the District line. In addition, six bus routes run through Earl’s Court, and there are seven docking stations for renting Barclays bikes.

Finding Earl’s Court Apartments

There are several estate agency offices in the Earl’s Court area; unfortunately, they don’t share listings of Earl’s Court apartments with each other. You might find some that agree to split commissions with another agent, but otherwise the London rentals industry doesn’t use MLS, so you can’t see all area properties through a single agent.

It’s annoying. We know. And that’s why we exist. London Relocation fills a serious void in the market for London apartments. We’ve vetted and work with a trusted network of estate agents to compile, on your behalf, as many as 25 London flats for you to view in only one day. So if you’re looking specifically for Earl’s Court apartments, for instance, you’ll be able to exhaust the neighborhood for those that fit your criteria, and we’ll then negotiate the rent and lease terms on the perfect property you choose.

Moving to London is a stressful undertaking—we know, we’ve done it, too!—so, rest assured, we’ll walk you through every stage of the process, attentively looking out for you even as you move in and get settled.
