Moving to London’s Southwest Side

St. James apartments technically fall within London’s SW1 postcode (“SW” for “Southwest”), but no question about it, they’re very central. There are SW neighborhoods that are like suburbs and a far commute from the City, and then there’s St. James, sitting pretty right in the middle of London’s most iconic locations.

Bounded by St. James’s Park and The Mall to the south, Piccadilly to the north, Green Park to the west, and Haymarket to the east, the St. James district is situated almost immediately between Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, and Trafalgar Square, with the Royal Horse Guards Parade, 10 Downing Street, and Parliament just off its southeast corner. Located right next to the West End theatre district as well, residents are never at a loss for entertainment—nor nightlife with all the fine restaurants and bars populating the vicinity. St. James is also home to a host of art galleries, corporate offices, and even royal residences such as St. James’s Palace and Clarence House. In a largely commercial and prestigious area, St. James’s residential property is comprised of some of the most expensive houses in London.

About a half mile from St. James’s Square across the park is the St. James’s Park tube stop, servicing the Circle and District lines of the London Underground. However, depending on their location, St. James apartments might have closer access to either Green Park station in the west (Piccadilly, Jubilee, and Victoria lines) or Piccadilly Circus to the northeast (Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines). Also nearby (across from Trafalgar Square) is Charing Cross railway station, with Underground trains on the Northern and Bakerloo lines and Southeastern trains; London Victoria is likewise a short commute away for National Rail trains. There are alternatively numerous bus routes running through the area, predominantly along Piccadilly, Regent, Haymarket, and Pall Mall. Barclays bikes are also available for rent if you fancy some exercise and fresh air—there’s a docking station at both St. James’s Square and Waterloo Place, as well as ones just east on Charles II Street and Pall Mall East.

Finding St. James Apartments

When it comes to finding quality flats for rent in London, you’ll want to conduct a thorough search to leave no precious gem unturned. City properties don’t always deliver everything on one’s wish list, so we recommend viewing at least one to two dozen St. James apartments to best evaluate which sound better on paper, which have all the need-to-haves and most (if not all) of the nice-to-haves, or which one simply possesses that je ne sais quoi telling your heart it’s meant to be your home.

Yes, “one to two dozen” sounds taxing, and you must expend even more energy working through multiple different estate agents. The concept of a multiple listing service (MLS) inexplicably doesn’t exist in the London rentals market, and while you might succeed in finding two agencies willing to split commissions on a property, the industry at large doesn’t follow this practice.

Tsk, tsk, we say. As expatriates who expected more on first moving to London and searching for flats ourselves, we directly identify with the frustrations you might be having doing the same, and we want to assist in any way we can. We can tailor a range of relocation services around your unique needs, and our specialty is London apartments.

For our home-search service, we’ll collaborate with a trusted network of vetted estate agencies serving the St. James area. Compiling as many as 25 St. James apartments meeting your specific requests, we’ll then chauffeur you to each one in the course of a single day. The process is seamless, running like clockwork to provide you with a comprehensive selection of choice properties to freshly compare back-to-back. This not only lets you exhaust the area for flats meeting your criteria, but it’s conducted expediently enough to stay ahead of the game—with desirable London flats getting snatched off the market overnight in this fast-moving, competitive climate, we make sure you don’t lose what you’ve set your sights on.

Moving to London entails a number of steps that can overlap or lead you in circles, so our job is to streamline your path to success. Serving as your one point of contact through the whole process—from UK visas, international movers, and London apartments to UK bank accounts, utilities, and anything else you need to settle in—we do it all so that you can do London in style and at ease.
