I've always wanted to see Jody live. The LL piece was fun to do, he's kinda making ripples with that Brad Pasiley duet. Albeit for the wrong reasons. I'm glad you liked it.

Your Herb Alpert memories are bigger than mine could ever be, it's true, but I love him too, Mr. Music Man. As always, Thanks for the information. I'm hoping one day to see him live. I think that would be one of the highlights of my concert-going experiences. His recorded repertoire has never failed to amaze me. -- Out!

Glad you liked it, that JJ piece was an early one, but it still says a lot of what I need to say about that clutch of her recordings, for now anyway. I've only done the one essay on Christina, so if you're re-reading, much obliged, lol.

Aww thank you! I had to add you when I saw you had top plays for my girl Miss Ross the Boss & Lady T (RIP). I'm working on having a vast but yet musically diverse of genre catalog such as yours. <3 Have a great one yourself!

Lol, you kinda came for Janet a bit, lol. She's a very sensitive subject for me, as I find that work & her overall presence has been misunderstood in the last decade. I did an entry, waaaay back @ the beginning of The QH Blend, about the four records done in the wake of her creative zeitgeist ("The Velvet Rope"), which you can read here: http://qhblend.blogspot.com/2008/03/post-velvet-rope-syndrome-which-lp-is.html I will be doing a full-length review of "Damita Jo" next year, a massive undertaking as it was the LP that transitioned me from casual to hardcore fan of Janet. Enjoy & share thoughts when finished. Q.

About Me

Lover of music -- basically all kinds except for classical instrumental. Love jazz, actually a great lover of voices, including classical (kinda funny, huh?) I am a lover of instantly recognizable voices -- Aretha, Diana, Luther, Dionne, Teena, Smokey, Stevie, Prince, Barbra, Barry (White and Manilow), Whitney, Mariah, Sarah, Nancy, Linda Ronstadt, Billy Joel, Natalie, her dad, Carole King, Shania Twain, Ella, Patti (LaBelle and Austin), Michael (Jackson, Bolton, Buble', Henderson, Sembello, Franks and McDonald -- whew!!), Donna Summer, Helen Baylor, Shirley Caesar, Peabo Bryson, Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, Freddie Mercury, Lou Rawls, Frank Sinatra, Bette Midler, Melba Moore, Darwin Hobbs, Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, etc., etc., etc. A great lyric lover -- Stevie Wonder is a genius at that, as is Bill Withers, and so is Smokey Robinson, and also, Elton John and Bernie Taupin (just listen to "Your Song"), and oh, Lord, the lyrics of Paul Simon give me a "jealous vibe" -- I wish I could write like that. Babyface writes great lyrics also -- so many props to him for the modern tradition's torch carrying. I am not a musician at all, nor am I a songwriter, but I do jot down my feelings into little notebooks when I am inspired. I only hit and miss at singing in my church choir. I am from Louisiana and I am very proud of that -- after all, we have produced Louis, Mahalia, the Neville Brothers, Harry Connick, Jr., the Marsalises, and Fats Domino among others, so music is in our blood and in the rhythm of our lives here.

In my lifetime, I will always remember having seen the following acts perform in concert: Al Jarreau, Luther Vandross, Diana Ross, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Chaka Khan, Rick James, Michael Bolton, Elton John, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Gerald Albright, Yolanda Adams, Mariah Carey, Des'ree, Garth Brooks, Nnenna Freelon, Kirk Franklin & the Family, the Kurt Carr Singers, Zapp, MC Hammer, Roger, Shirley Murdock, Cameo, the Gap Band, Cassandra Wilson, Patti LaBelle, George Strait, Smokey Robinson, Earth, Wind & Fire, Regina Belle, Leon Russell, and the absolutely electrifying 1,000-Voice Community Choir of New Orleans at the World's Fair when the fair was hosted in New Orleans during the 80's.

There are so many others I hope to see live before I die. There is something very special about seeing an artist live that cannot be described. Listening to their recordings is beautiful, but the live experience is extraordinary. And the only regrets I have is that some of the artists I had hoped to see are now no longer with us...that saddens me...so, my advice to anyone who has a chance to see a concert here or there is this -- do it if and when you can, because you never know!!!
