Undisciplined Tornadoes fall to Rebels

Queensland Rugby
Sunday September 16, 2007

The Ballymore Tornadoes were again ruing the loss of two players to yellow cards as they went down 34-25 to the David Croft-inspired Melbourne Rebels outfit at Ballymore this afternoon.

The Tornadoes were left with 14 men twice in the game and the Rebels capitalised with three tries while Ernest Skelton and Ed O’Donoghue both spent time on the sideline.

Frustrated Tornadoes coach Chris Roche was again left lamenting what could have been after his team trailed 20-8 at half time.

“It’s very disappointing because it was a very winnable game. You don’t win rugby games with fourteen men ... they scored three tries while we had fourteen guys on the field.

Peter Playford starred for the visitors with a hat trick of tries and skipper David Croft was everywhere for the Rebels in a typically busy and robust performance.

Tornadoes young gun Blair Connor scored a brilliant individual kick and regather try to open the home team’s account after being in doubt for the game when he rolled an ankle in the warm up.

Josh Mann-Rea and replacement back rower Steve Miller were the Tornadoes other try scorers.

The Tornadoes play the Perth Spirit at Ballymore next Sunday, September 23, at 4:00pm (AEST).
