Future Action

The Basement at 24 lever Street is still unsafe (and somewhat minging) after the fire last year. At the last collective meeting consensus was we want a social centre back in manchester and we are aiming to move back to the refurbished and fully accessible premises as soon as we can. We have won the legal dispute with the landlord re: tenancy issues (for full minutes of the meeting please email mustsocial@yahoo.co.uk)

We agreed to have regular fundraisers, socials and better communication with other groups.  Members of the Basement Collective are supporting the forthcoming days of action for squats and autonomous spaces. (sorry to just cut and paste someone elses email but here goes)

On Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th of April 2008, there will be two days of demonstration, direct action, public information, street-party, squatting... in defence of free spaces and for an anti-capitalist popular culture. Come to an organisational meeting to get involved in Manchester!
Miss the Basement? Want to get involved in an international event creating autonomous spaces all over Europe?

We want to help create more visibility of autonomous spaces and squats as a european/global political movement. We want to develop interconnections and solidarity between squats and autonomous spaces. We want to keep linking our spaces with new people and new struggles, and support the creation of autonomous spaces in places where there has not been a history of this kind of action. We want to build, step by step, our ability to overcome the wave of repression falling on us.

Meeting Thursday 21st February 7pm, upstairs at the Town Hall Tavern, 20 Tib Lane
to plan Manchester's next autonomous space, which will be a collaboration between the Basement/No Borders/Indymedia/Manchester Climate Action, the TAA...and other networks besides!

Come along to get involved, bring proposals, ideas, friends!!

This squat will help raise funds for the Basement,  http://thebasement.clearerchannel.org/new/
