Thirteen years after a South Barrington woman drowned in her bathtub, her husband has been charged with her murder. Frank Buschauer, 65, of Pell Lake Wis., was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife Cynthia Hrisco, who was 47 when she drowned in the couple’s South Barrington home on Feb. 28, 2000, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.

Chicago Police seized more than $250,000 worth of drugs from the home of a Des Plaines man Wednesday in the northwest suburb. Edmond Hughes, 33, was charged with possession of cannabis; production of 20 to 50 cannabis plants; possession of cocaine, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to a Chicago Police statement. On Thursday, Hughes was ordered held on $40,000 bond.

On the February 2012 night when Jay Cox’s Jeep collided with Efren Garcia’s Nissan, lives changed forever. Garcia’s wife, Stephanie, could see the crash from the front yard of her Bolingbrook home. She saw her husband’s crushed car and watched as crews worked to pull him from the wreckage. Garcia, 30, was pronounced dead less than two hours later. Cox, who crawled out of his rolled Jeep at the scene and asked for cigarettes, was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge.

Burglars strike Near North Side businesses

Police issued an alert Thursday warning Gold Coast neighborhood businesses about a recent string of overnight burglaries. The burglars forcibly entered closed stores in late evening and early morning hours, according to the alert from Area Central detectives.
