Former Boston Legal and The Office star James Spader is set to star as the male lead opposite Megan Boone in NBC‘s drama pilot The Blacklist. Written by Jon Bokenkamp, the project centers on Red (Spader), the world’s most wanted criminal who mysteriously turns himself in and offers to give up everyone he has ever worked with. His only condition is he will only work with a newly minted FBI agent, Elizabeth Keen (Boone), with whom he seemingly has no connection. Red is described as a former Army intelligence officer who went AWOL and now serves not as a spy but a facilitator…brokering deals for criminals. Emmy winner Spader, repped by ICM Partners and Melanie Cook, had been pursued for multiple pilots this season, ultimately settling on the Sony TV-produced drama.

All I can hope is that Nbc does not air this pilot on a Thursday at 10 PM. Other than that,who knows? I mean, I love James Spader,but,I’ll always see him as Alan Shore. I wish him the best of luck•••Fact is,ANY pilot airing on NBC will need luck.Right now Nbc’s rep is lower than dirt…

Spader’s the best, always entertaining to watch. Concept is a bit odd but, if anyone can pull it of, he’s the one.
Spader has the chops to pull this one off. Sure beats “selling shirts at Barney’s”.

Bummer. Had hoped Kiefer was going to book this gig. Actually like Spader but the casting choice seems really odd. Will never understand NBC casting outside the 18-49 demo for leads and then wondering why they can’t attract the demo. Oh well.
I sincerely hope this airs for I love James Spader and since Boston Legal and his character on the office left. I’ve been hoping that he’d be in a new show.

Might be good, but I am SO tired of ‘crime’ shows… and this is just a variation of that. I’m tired of ‘SEEING’ the writing… Also, I hope they retire all the ludicrously unreal ‘doc’ shows where they’re all SO altruistic and positively no one extorts scared, sick people… Well, that’s what I have to say today. Thanks.
