Head of Syrian opposition coalition resigns

The head of the Syrian opposition coalition, Moaz al-Khatib, resigned on Sunday, expressing his frustration at the lack of international and regional support, dpa reports.

"Everything that has happened to the Syrian people, damaging the infrastructure, arresting tens of thousands and the displacement of hundreds of thousands and other tragedies are not enough to take an international decision to allow the people to defend themselves," he said.

"I announce my resignation from the National Coalition, so that I can work freely, something not provided within the official institutions," al-Khatib said.
