Akhtar Hussein

Akhtar Hussain from Norway is a Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) 2013-2015 and co-Chair of the Review Committee of the IDF BRIDGES programme 2012-2014. He is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Health and Society, Department of International Health, and is responsible for International Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome Research at the Master/Ph.D. program in International Community Health, University of Oslo.

Prof. Hussein graduated in Medicine from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and has PhD’s from Boston-USA and Bergen-Norway. He has also obtained advanced degrees in Public Health and Education Psychology in Norway from the University of Oslo. He originates from Bangladesh and migrated to Norway in 1984. Since then he has been working as a bridge-maker between West and East in order to comprehend the complexity of differential risk factors and to promote collaboration and manpower development both in the East and West hemisphere. In addition, he has also contributed to promote collaboration between South to South.

Prof Hussein has published more than 100 articles in peer reviewed international journals.
