Tampa Bay Lightning 0, Boston Bruins 2 FINAL

Perhaps the final score did not accurately reflect the performance of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Tampa Bay, playing in a makeup game from earlier in the season, couldn’t solve goaltender Tuukka Rask, and as a result, fell 2-0 to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden.

The game was initially scheduled for the second month of the season, but was postponed until Thursday night due to a severe snowstorm in the Boston area at the time.

With that said, and keeping in mind the short travel schedule in traveling to Boston overnight, the Lightning certainly played well, and certainly saw its fair share of chances, considering they were playing in their second game in as many nights after earning a 5-2 win at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday night at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

“We did a good job on defense, blocking shots and getting to their guys,” Lightning assistant coach Dan Lacroix said. “We played last night, so we wanted to keep it as simple as we can, being that it was a road game.”

Tampa Bay certainly did that, as Steven Stamkos had a prime opportunity to put the Bolts on the board early, but was robbed by Rask, as the goaltender slid across the crease to make a glove save on the Lightning forward.

Moments later, Alex Killorn had not one, but two chances for Tampa Bay, but again, Rask was equal to the task.

Dennis Seidenberg and Daniel Paille each had goals for the Bruins, which one for the second time in three tries.

Rask made 30 saves.

After Ben Bishop made an appearance in net for the Lightning on Wednesday night, just 24 hours before Thursday’s puck drop, Anders Lindback earned the nod against the Bruins, stopping 22 of 24 shots faced on the net.

After a scoreless first, Seidenberg opened the scoring at 4:22 of the second with a booming slap shot past Lindback that made it 1-0 in favor of the Bruins.

Paille then doubled the advantage with a quick shot that also snuck past the Lightning netminder, bringing the score to 2-0 with 6:29 remaining in the middle frame.

Still, even down by a pair of goals, Tampa Bay continued to press in the third, including matching the Bruins’ shot total at 12 apiece in the final period after outshooting Boston by a combined total of 18-12 through the first 40 minutes.

Despite peppering Rask in the final frame with shot after shot, the Bruins netminder stood tall to earn the win.
