The Plant and Soil Science Department at Texas Tech University offers
both undergraduate and graduate degrees in the areas of Horticulture,
Entomology, and Agronomy.
Cecil I. Ayers was a professor of agronomy who coached the Tech Crops
Judging Team. Under his supervision, the team won numerous awards and honors.
Ayers was winner of the Piper Professor Award in 1962 and has a student
scholarship named in his honor available to plant and soil science majors.

coached by Professor Cecil Ayers beginning in 1942.
