    Assalam alaikum,

I am a little confused why does the Quran refer to jews as ‘Bani Israeel’ when Israel was not formed then?

Israel was another name of Nabi Jacob, the father of Nabi Yusuf, Benjamin, and their 10 brothers. The descendants of Jacob’s sons forms the twelve tribes of Israel, the children of Israel (aka bani Israel).

You mentioned the ayat that illustrated the fear that Musa’s people had. Is such deemed sinful, as they did not put their trust in Allah at that moment? (i.e, being cowardly)
