SAN ANTONIO (AP) Zach Randolph's miserable Western Conference finals debut led to a sleepless night and a long film session.

The All-Star power forward and his Memphis Grizzlies are hardly down and out, though. In both rounds of the playoffs so far, Memphis has lost Game 1 before rallying back to knock out the Los Angeles Clippers and then the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This time, Randolph had his worst game ever in the playoffs, managing two points in a 105-83 blowout. His only lower-scoring game in 40 playoff appearances was when he played 1 minute as a rookie for Portland in a 2002 game.

"It's more frustrating than embarrassing," said Randolph, who missed his first seven shots in Game 1. "It's basketball. It happens to the best of them.

"Muhammad Ali, he got knocked down before. What made him the greatest fighter in the world is he always bounced back."

It took the Grizzlies two games to get off the mat in the first round, when they suffered a 21-point blowout at Los Angeles and then lost on a Chris Paul buzzer-beater in Game 2. Memphis then won the next four.

There weren't as many adjustments needed in Round 2, when Kevin Durant's spectacular finish lifted Oklahoma City to a two-point win in the opener. Again, the Grizzlies won four straight to advance.

So, the panic button is nowhere in sight for these comeback kids with Game 2 on Tuesday night in San Antonio.

"That's what you do in life. Every time you have a bad moment, you've got to bounce back and get up and go again," coach Lionel Hollins said. "You have a bad day, you've got to get up the next morning and make it a good day. Every team has lost games that have been really bad, they've lost one-point buzzer-beaters, all of those types of things.

"If you're going to be in life and live, you've got to get up and go do it again and try to be better."

After last year's West finals, the Spurs are wary of feeling good about any series lead. San Antonio won the first two games at home last year, and then lost four in a row to the Thunder.

"Everything can change real fast," point guard Tony Parker said.

The Spurs had a surprisingly easy time against the NBA's best defense in Game 1, shooting 53 percent and making a franchise postseason-record 14 3-pointers on just 29 attempts. It took Memphis too long to settle in during its first conference finals appearance, and San Antonio was up 17 by the end of the first quarter and 20 in the second quarter.

"We found out it wasn't as bad as it looked," Hollins said. "It was a lot of just out of position, playing with hyper speed and doing things that we don't normally do because of the moment and not just playing the game the way it's supposed to be played."

The mistakes were many. Point guard Mike Conley said Memphis needs to pick up its defense on Parker beyond the 3-point line and keep him from penetrating the lane so easily to set up the 3-point shooters around him. Once in scramble mode, the Grizzlies over-helped and left too many openings.

On offense, the ball got stuck, which allowed the Spurs' defense to recover and wipe out any scoring opportunities for Randolph around the basket.

"All the things that we did wrong - no pace, no moving the ball, no running back, no communicating - if we do all that good and we are who we are and we lose, now we're going to see," center Marc Gasol said. "It's hard to get a lot of information about that last game because we just played so poorly."

Game 2 provides a clean slate to try again, and Memphis hasn't had two straight poor games yet this postseason.

"We adjust, I think, pretty well to teams and this is no different. We have to come out, make the same adjustments, stick to those adjustments and trust them because this team is so disciplined that they're not going to stop what they're doing," Conley said. "They do what they do very well. They're the best in the league at it."

The Spurs were hesitant to take too much credit for what went right.

"The ball happened to go into the basket," coach Gregg Popovich said. "It's a game. Some nights you make two, some nights you make 14. That's a rarity. But there's never really a reason. ... We didn't run anything magical to get the shots. They just went in."

It was quite the turnaround from the last round, when San Antonio made 44 percent and struggled to make shots consistently.

"I'm a math guy," said Matt Bonner, who made four of his five 3-point attempts. "It's highly improbable we're going to shoot at the clip we did last game. They've got the best defense in the league. They're going to come out and make adjustments and play better on defense for sure."

Spurs blow late lead, beat Grizzlies 93-89 in OT

SAN ANTONIO (AP) When Tony Parker started running low on masterful plays, Tim Duncan was there to take over and lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals.

Parker had 15 points and a career playoff-high 18 assists, Duncan scored San Antonio's first six points of overtime and the Spurs bounced back after squandering a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 93-89 on Tuesday night.

"I hate that we gave up that big of a lead in that situation," Duncan said. "But we were resilient enough to go to overtime and not let it affect us."

Duncan opened the extra period with a layup, and then made a tiebreaking putback on Parker's missed jumper. He then made a runner that bounced high of the back iron and rattled in for a 91-87 lead with 1:08 to play.

The Grizzlies had a chance to tie after Jerryd Bayless hit a jumper and Parker missed one of two free throws with 14.6 seconds left, but Bayless' 3-pointer from the left wing was off-target.

Memphis has fallen behind in all three playoff series so far, including rallying from an 0-2 deficit in the first round against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Game 3 is Saturday in Memphis.

"We're in the same boat we were when we left L.A. We're down 0-2. We've got to go home and take care of business at home," coach Lionel Hollins said. "It's not going to be easy, but that's where we are."

Bayless and Mike Conley each had 18 points to lead Memphis.

Duncan had 17 points and nine rebounds, missing most of the second half with foul trouble before coming up with the key baskets in overtime - even if it wasn't by design.

"It was just what was there more than anything," he said.

Memphis stormed back from a 13-point deficit with a 15-2 run over the final 8 minutes of regulation to tie it at 85 on Conley's runner in the lane with 18.2 seconds to play. The Grizzlies got the chance to pull even after Manu Ginobili was called for a flagrant foul for pulling down Tony Allen by his left arm on a fast-break layup try.

Allen hit both free throws and Memphis got possession, setting up Conley's tying basket at the end of a string of seven straight Grizzlies points.

But Memphis, which trailed by as much as 18 in the second half, could never pull ahead.

Up until the final stretch, Parker had been in control for 2 1/2 quarters.

Parker kept San Antonio humming along after Duncan went to the bench with four fouls, the last three picked up within a span of 30 seconds, early in the third quarter. Parker provided the assist on the Spurs' first seven baskets of the second half, and then scored the next two on mid-range jumpers before getting pulled for a rest with a 72-54 lead.

The Grizzlies mounted a 16-6 comeback while Parker was on the bench, getting as close as 78-70 after Zach Randolph scored inside following back-to-back Bayless jumpers.

Parker checked back in and soon had the lead growing again, ducking under Darrell Arthur to hit a floater and then knocking down a 3-pointer from the right wing to make it 83-70 with 8:14 to play. But then Parker finally went cold, missing five straight shots down the stretch as the Grizzlies rallied back.

He had 14 assists in the second and third quarters and went past his career-high for the regular season of 17 during overtime.

"He was unbelievable," Duncan said. "I know he's exhausted. We asked a lot of him. He was controlling the ball every time down the floor and he was making every right play there was.

"He was finding people, and people knocked down shots for him."

After Game 1, Memphis' guards outlined a game plan that involved picking up their defense earlier on Parker to keep him from getting into the lane and putting the Grizzlies into the scramble mode that allowed San Antonio to hit a franchise playoff record 14 3-pointers in the opener.

It wasn't until late that any of their plans started working.

"He's a Hall of Fame guard, people. He's been around, he's done great things in his career," Hollins said. "He just controlled the pace and got in the paint, found open guys. ... We battled him, though, and we wound up being in the game."

But then, Duncan - who missed a potential winning jumper from the left wing at the end of regulation - took over.

The Spurs put all five starters in double figures, getting 14 points from Tiago Splitter, 12 from Kawhi Leonard and 11 from Danny Green.

Randolph had 15 points and 18 rebounds after a two-point performance in Game 1, his lowest-scoring effort all season. Marc Gasol had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Hollins talked before the game about wanting the Grizzlies - getting increased attention in their first Western Conference finals appearance - to avoid being like a boy in junior high school who suddenly decides he needs to change once he gets noticed by a pretty girl.

"We're who we are and we have to stay who we are, and we have to understand that no matter who's coming and talking to us, we have to be true to our identity," Hollins said, "and we can't go changing and shaving and taking a bath when we haven't taken one all along."

Memphis, with the league's best defense, looked like itself again early on while recovering from a 7-0 hole to turn it into a 15-13 slugfest after the first quarter. But after the Grizzlies went ahead for the first time, San Antonio surged back ahead with seven straight points. Just before halftime, the Spurs asserted control with a 13-0 run and went up 46-31 at the break.

Notes: There was a moment of silence before the game recognizing the deadly tornado that hit Moore, Okla., on Monday. ... The Grizzlies missed five shots on their next-to-last possession of the first half. Tony Allen's baseline drive was snuffed out by a Leonard block and he also missed the putback before Randolph missed two putback tries - one of them blocked by Duncan. Tony Wroten then missed the final follow shot. ... Parker's previous career best in the playoffs was 14 assists against Utah on May 22, 2007. Johnny Moore holds the franchise postseason record with 20 against Denver in 1983.

THE FACTS: Tim Duncan scored 17 points, including six in overtime when Memphis could score only four, and the San Antonio Spurs have managed a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals after a shaky 93-89 victory over the Grizzlies on Tuesday at AT&T Center.

Behind a career playoff-high 18 assists from Tony Parker, San Antonio built a lead of as much as 18 points. It was 12 heading into the fourth quarter before the Spurs missed their final eight shots from the floor in regulation and failed to score in the final 4:18 of the fourth quarter.

Jerryd Bayless came off the Memphis bench to score 18 points, but missed a 3-pointer that would have tied the game with 11 seconds left in overtime. Mike Conley also added 18, but Zach Randolph had another flat shooting night. Maybe the return to home court in Memphis for Game 3 on Saturday will pull him out of his funk, because he was 6-for-18 after starting 1-for-10, and he's 7-for-26 in the series.

THE STAT: Despite the comeback, the game got away from the Grizzlies when they shot 24 percent in the second quarter and were outscored 31-18. Randolph went 0-for-7 and Tony Allen was 0-for-4. Memphis missed 14 straight shots to finish the half.

TURNING POINT: It was not enough to steal the win, but perhaps the fourth quarter has given the Grizzlies new life heading back home. Trailing 76-64, Memphis outscored San Antonio 21-9 even through the Grizzlies shot 38 percent from the floor. Memphis was down 0-2 in the first round after losing both games to open the Clippers series in L.A.

QUOTABLE II: "They ran at us. They got easy buckets, They got hot. But the second half I think we played more our basketball. We attacked, and of course everything works better when you make shots."

HOT: Duncan was playing with five fouls, but he was 3-for-5 from the floor in overtime while Memphis went 2-for-12. Otherwise, Duncan was close to producing Z-Bo (Randolph) numbers; Duncan shot 6-for-14 for the game.

NOT: Randolph was 0-for-7 from the floor when the Grizzlies shot 24 percent in the second quarter. In a striking span of less than 10 seconds in the final minute of the first half, the Grizzlies missed six straight shots in the paint with Z-Bo taking half of those.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Parker continues to be the highlight of this series. He's averaging 14.5 points and 13.5 assists against the Grizzlies through two games.

GOOD MOVE: Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins had been struggling to find the right combination all night, and he finally got the mix to work when he played Quincy Pondexter all 12 minutes of the fourth quarter and paired him with Bayless and Conley for most of the quarter. Bayless and Pondexter combined for nine fourth-quarter points. "We finally found a combination, we finally found something we could use to attack," Hollins said. "We played a little faster."

BAD MOVE: The Spurs led by seven heading into the final minute of regulation when they committed two poor fouls. The first came on Matt Bonner's push of Randolph from behind when Randolph was in the process of making one under the basket. His free throw cut San Antonio's lead to four with 52 seconds to go. Manu Ginobili followed with a turnover and a flagrant foul on an Allen layup. Allen missed the shot, but he made both free throws and Memphis tied the game with the possession on a short jumper with 18 seconds to go.

ROOKIE WATCH: In less than three minutes of playing time, Tony Wroten went 0-for-4. During that memorable miss of six straight shots in less than 10 seconds to end the first half, one of them came from Wroten on a short putback attempt.

NOTABLE: Parker's 18 assists fell two short of Johnny Moore's team record set in 1983. ... Duncan had four blocked shots and became the first NBA player to hit 500 career blocks in the playoffs. ... San Antonio had nine blocked shots in the first half and ended with 12 (Memphis had six).
