Sole & Gold Panda Release Circuit Bent Video for “Extremophile” (Video)

Indie rap veteran Sole exhibits the abstract style previously displayed on Sole & the Skyrider Band and Plastique via the Gold Panda-produced “Extremophile.” Circle Into Square‘s Big Pauper created the clip by means of found VHS footage and a “fritz box,” which is a hacked machine used to circuit bend video and spawn outlandish textures. The track is taken from No Wising Up No Settling Down, which drops May 1 on Black Canyon.

Sole on “Extremophile”:

“The song is a Kerouac-ian poem about about science and civilization using space as the canvas…a concept which we’ve projected our hopes and dreams onto. An extremophile is an organism that can survive in climates that are hostile, where it was previously believed that no life could exist. It’s an apt metaphor for the independent artist in 2013.”

Premiere: Kaigen and Awol One – “Fiddling While The Industry Burns” (Video)

As my Japanese is a bit rusty these days, I can only assume Kaigen is rapping about Mitt Romney’s love for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or the industry and its inherent shittiness. Whatever the case, dude can rap fast as all hell and has earned the respect of Fake Four emcees such as SoleCeschi and Los Angeles vet Awol One, who features on the clip for “Fiddling While The Industry Burns??,” filmed during Awol’s Japanese tour earlier this year. Curse Ov Dialect produced the dynamic, pulsing track which finds Kaigen and Awol trading bars in their respective tongues.

The song is taken from Kaigen’s Re: bloomer, which includes production from Thavius Beck and Jel of Anticon and guest shots from west coast underground elite such as Myka 9 and 2Mex. Kaigen has also recently taken over the reigns of Fake Four Japan, an offshoot of Fake Four, Inc., and plans to continue collaborating and touring with the label’s ever-growing stable of artists.

Sole Drops First Single From ‘A Ruthless Criticism Of Everything Existing’ (MP3)

On “Young Sole,” the first single off the forthcoming A Ruthless Criticism Of Everything Existing (taken from a Marx essay of the same name), Denver-based emcee Sole continues his assault on complacency in the face of a world on fire. For an artist as prolific as Sole, it’s hard to believe ARCOEE marks his first official solo album since 2005′s Live From Rome. “Enough with the fucking fashion show, say something real… life is too short to kiss rings,” Sole declares over a head nodder from Canadian super producer Factor. ARCOEE is slated for release in October and is being funded via kickstarter.

Premiere: Kaigen – “Gold Lining” (f/ Ceschi) (Video)

Japanese emcee Kaigen, who has earned props courtesy everyone from Chuck D to Project Blowed for his light speed flow, has a new album out featuring guest shots from Sole, Myka 9, 2Mex, Awol One and Ceschi along with production from the likes of Jel (anticon) and Thavius Beck. Kaigen uses his platform to speak on a variety of social ills and the importance of hope. Lest his message be lost in translation, Re: bloomer comes complete with transcribed lyrics. Ceschi contributes a powerful chorus and elastic, fiery verse to the Shunsuke Endo-directed clip for “Gold Lining,” which you can check out below.
