Indie rap veteran Sole exhibits the abstract style previously displayed on Sole & the Skyrider Band and Plastique via the Gold Panda-produced “Extremophile.” Circle Into Square‘s Big Pauper created the clip by means of found VHS footage and a “fritz box,” which is a hacked machine used to circuit bend video and spawn outlandish textures. The track is taken from No Wising Up No Settling Down, which drops May 1 on Black Canyon.
Sole on “Extremophile”:
“The song is a Kerouac-ian poem about about science and civilization using space as the canvas…a concept which we’ve projected our hopes and dreams onto. An extremophile is an organism that can survive in climates that are hostile, where it was previously believed that no life could exist. It’s an apt metaphor for the independent artist in 2013.”
