Pool Makes a Big Splash at South West Snooker Academy

The 8 Ball Pro Masters is under way at South West Snooker Academy.

A World Class field of 16 players has assembled, boasting nine World titles amongst them.

But there was bad luck for Michael Hill who suffered a re-ocurrance of a neck injury on the eve of the event. His place has gone to Swansea’s Ben Davies, runner up in the British Open last weekend.

The players are kitted out in smart grey shirts, provided by Finicky (www.finickyshirts.com) and the DPT table also boasts a slinky grey 6811 cloth.

EASB Tour at South West Snooker Academy

SWSA based Tom Maxfield, winner of the last EASB event.

The EASB are playing the latest phase of their PTT tour, featuring some of England’s leading amateurs at the Academy this weekend.

Leading the field is former professional Newcastle’s Gary Wilson, currently top of the English rankings.

Hot on his heels is Liverpool’s Robbie Williams, who is back on home turf after helping the England team lift the European Team Championship in Bulgaria last week.

On Q Promotions’ own Kyren Wilson is challenging in third place.

Academy Selected as PTC Venue

The South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester, a World Snooker Centre of excellence, has been selected to stage all four UK Players Tour Championship events next season.

Amateur and professional players from anywhere in the world are eligible to compete in the PTC series.

Entry and information packs will be available in the coming weeks.

 

The dates for the UK events at the South West Snooker Academy are:

A spokesman for World Snooker said: “The South West Snooker Academy hosted two PTC events this season and it proved an excellent venue with a high standard of playing conditions and facilities for players.

“We recognise the need to have access for spectators at PTC events and the SWSA provides this option.

“Alongside the SWSA team we look forward to four top class PTC events in Gloucester next season, to be contested by players from all around the world.”

All Set for a Dip in the Pool

South West Snooker Academy is gearing up to host a major 8 ball pool event 23-25 March.

The International Professional Pool Players Association (IPA) is organising the Professional 8 Ball Pool Masters which will be recorded for Sky Sports.

The event kicks off with the draw on Friday evening, which is also a “meet the players” and autograph opportunity for fans.

Play continues through to the final on Sunday evening. Entry is FREE for fans on all three days.

The quality field includes four current or former world champions with a total of nine world titles between them, as well as snooker professional Alfie Burden, who is aiming to transfer his skills to the smaller table.

 

The live audience will be well catered for at the South West Snooker Academy, a prestigious venue with comfortable seating and quality catering facilities as well as perhaps the best set up seen for an 8 ball pool tournament.

The event includes a Team Competition, Individual Tournament, Juniors and Masters tournaments.
