Former Deputy Mayor and City Councillor Joe Pantalone

Ward 19 Trinity-Spadina

Former City Councillor Joe Pantalone Joe Pantalone was the Deputy Mayor of the City Of Toronto from 2003 to 2010 and served as Alderman, Metro Councillor and Toronto Councillor from 1980 to 2010. The son of a share cropper and a seamstress who immigrated to Toronto at age 13 - speaking two words of English - he eventually brought a European sense to municipal politics. He worked hard to make sure that municipal government succeeded because Joe believed when government works well, it works well for everyone.

Joe is well known for his dedication to a beautiful, green and safe city. As Chair of Exhibition Place from 1995 to 2010, he transformed this faltering Waterfront venue into a sports, environmental, heritage and festival showcase. Besides pioneering the position of the Tree Advocate and Trees Across Toronto Program, Joe also championed the first Municipal Green Roof Policy and By-Laws and laid the groundwork for Toronto's Environmental successes through the Roundtable on the Environment (2003-2006).

In addition, Joe successfully implemented city initiatives by chairing numerous Steering Committees including City of Toronto 175th Anniversary, War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration, Harbourfront Parks, National Trade Centre, and Music Building Restoration. Joe served as a member of virtually every standing committee including Executive, Striking, Budget, Civic Appointments, Urban Environment and Development, Planning and Development and Toronto East York Community Council. He was a member of a wide breadth of the City's Agencies, Boards and Commission including Canadian National Exhibition Association, Municipal Association, Tourism Toronto, Toronto Transit Commission and Toronto Artscape.

Joe Pantalone ran for the position of Mayor in 2010 and is grateful for the privilege of serving the great city of Toronto.
